Here's what I've got:

94' Campagnolo Chorus crankset (looks just like the Croce 5 arm)
Campagnolo Record 8 rear derailleur
Spinergy Spox 2000 wheelset w/ Shimano 8/9/10 freehub
Boone ti Shimano 8 cassette sans rings
Campagnolo Record 8 cassette

I've tried to build the cassette by mounting each boone cog with a Campagnolo spacer between it but ended up not able to mount the lockring due to too much stack height. I realise Wheels manufacturing makes a set of spacers for this purpose but need to know if I'll end up with the same result.

I also have a bunch of parts on hand, including a Dura Ace 9 cassette (which of course mounts perfectly).

Should I do the Wheels Manufacturing thing, do something I don't yet know about or just give up and buy a Dura Ace 9 speed derailleur and bar end shifters?

Thanks,
DG1

Geez, dannyg1, Dura Ace 9 isn't quite vintage and classic yet, I hope. Campy 8 maybe, but not anything 9...the mechanics forum loves this kind of question...so does Sheldon, but I'll give up my too sense just because, then you should go ask the experts. The front rings make very little difference. The rear derailleur is more and more sensitive to cog sets, but you should try the derailleur with the freewheel. I've been suprised by weirder combinations than this - you didn't specify the shifter setup, and shifters are most sensitive to cogsets...so if you have shimano shifters, shimano cogs, and a campy derailleur, I wouldn't be suprised if it worked. If you have campy shifters, shimano cogs and I don't care what kind of derailleur, I would be astounded if you could get it to work repeatedly and well. The best setup is all one system, and 9 (imho) is better than 8 (you can get that sweet big back cog in there).

I might be stretching the meaning of 'vintage', but I've got a lot of bikes and this is only my second build that isn't 6 or 7 speed Campagnolo. In any event, most of this stuff is 1994 vintage. Good enough for classic?

The Brifters are Campy Record carbon 8's.
