Every night i go to sleep
The blues fall down like rain
Every night i go to sleep
The blues fall down like rain
Taking pills, cheap whiskey
Just to try to ease the pain

Well it's hard to gamble
When you lose every bet
Hard to save money
When you're twenty years in debt
The blues is falling
Falling down on me like rain
I'm gonna take a shotgun now people
And disconnect my brain

I made some mistakes
Had some bad breaks
Now my mind don't work
And my whole body aches
The blues is falling
Falling down on me like rain
My life is like water
Just swirling down the drain

Well i tried standin' up
I keep on falling down
Tried standing up
Keep on fallin' down
Everywhere i go
The blues is all around

Ok,
there are a bunch of great blues guys and gals out there.
But I have no way of knowing which ones will get to you.
BB King The Thrill is Gone is a must. Get to know the old guys, the roots of the blues.

You know who can flat out play the blues? John Mayer. That kid can make it sound like Stevie Ray V. at times. (yeah....yeah... how can anybody who studied at Berklee have the blues?)

Stevie Ray Vaughn. The best that has ever picked up a guitar and played the blues!!!! He made it sound like he was wringing the notes out of the neck and those heavy strings gave that killer tone.

Nobody ever mentions Jimi Hendrix? Clapton, SRV are ussually thought of..but there would be no SRV w/o Jimi and Clapton woulda...well, Clapton would of been considered the "Best Guitarist" in his time if it weren't for Jimi. Listen to Hendrix Blues stuff and you'll here a whole lotta Muddy Waters and Albert King (also left handed blues guy), and lightin' Hopkins. Personally I think that guy was the greatest American Blues guitarist of all time -(if you haven't already geussed) ;)

I like almost all blues, electric or acoustic, but Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy and Peter Green are my favorites. Hubert Sumlin, who was Wolf's guitarist for years, is my all time favorite instrumentalist in the style. If acoustic blues fans get curious, check out Leadbelly.

I was just listening to this recently:

http://www.primusmedia.de/image/cover/front/0/8853161.jpg

- anybody know Dave Edmunds? This album was released in 1968 when young Brits were busy recycling old American blues. It's no Clapton, but its a great (albeit obscure) album nonetheless.

Alexis Korner was the father of British blues, John Mayall was his disciple, and Eric Clapton was just John Mayall's guitarist, originally. Speaking of British Blues, The Groundhogs were pretty good, and Fleetwood Mac was *originally* a blues band...Mick Taylor ain't bad either...

- anybody know Dave Edmunds?

Dave Edmunds is awesome! I don't know anything of his that is blues, but he had several minor hits in the late 70's and early 80's. Well known are "I Knew the Bride (When She Used To Rock and Roll)" and "Slippin' Away." And there's nothing like driving fast to "Crawling from the Wreckage..."

There's a good live album called "I Hear You Rockin'..." of these songs.

Im gonna get heat for this, but to me they arent blues.......
But, if you are a student of the Hendrix-Clapton-SRV is blues school of thought,
you should check out Mick Taylor. One of the most underated guitarists of all time.
the 'Stones have were never the same when he left.
I never got the Clapton stuff.....To me he is average at best.

I'm with you on Clapton, Cream was one of my favorites back in the day, but I didn't think of them as blues. IMO Clapton is highly overrated and I don't really understand his enduring popularity. For starters, most 'British Blues' are a pale shadow of the blues' American roots, and Clapton's guitar playing was often carried by the other musicians he played with. I would probably rate Mick Taylor, Rory Gallagher and Tony McPhee as better British blues guitarists than Clapton.
