Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

For someone who hasn't been into bicycling for many, many years, I've recently jumped in with both feet. First were his & hers Trek Navigator 200's. Then an older Trek Mountain Track 800 from a garage sale (it's OK but heavy- steel frame). But today I did myself proud- picked up my new ('05) Specialized Rockhopper; then on the way back home stopped by another bike shop where they were selling their '05 Rocky Mountain rental bikes- a few scuffs & scratches, but otherwise in great shape. Anyway my only problem is that while the Rockhopper looks terrific, the ride, steering and balance of the Rocky Mountain is amazing. I think it's going to be my favorite all around bike. I think now that I've got the Trek Mtn. Track cleaned up & purring, it's time for it to go! That will make for a more manageable 4 bikes for the two of us.

ChuckleChuckleChuckle.....There's no such thing as cycling monogamy-- what romantics these riders be. Cyclists are all alike: they're never content with just one bike...the garage harem always has room for one more!

Only 4 bikes for two of you- Buy a bigger garage.
Currently in my garage are 5 bikes and I am the only one riding in the family. Then there are the two road bikes in the shed at the bottom of the garden that might be usefull if I ever want to have an easier ride. (Got to think of the future) Then there are the the 8 Good wheels in the garage, and the 14 old wheels that could be put into service if required. Then there are the 2 frames with some usefull parts attached that if required could be used as spares.
These are the accumulation of 15 years riding, or is it the magpie in me that just collects rubbish.

Wow! There must be something wrong with me I only have one bike, my Schwinn Mesa. My wife has a bike and we have my daughter's bike, (she just moved out) that's three...oh wait, we also have her children's bike hanging in the garage, but she hasn't ridden that for years. So, that makes four. I need to go out and buy more bikes. Maybe a "bent" and an electric power assist. Oh, and I don't have a road bike yet either. I have to clean out the garage first, though.

Basically I had to have a storage shed built just to hold the bikes!

I think that would be a cool problem to have. :)

Too many bikes? That's like saying too much money. Too much great sex. Too many birdies on the golf course. Too many vacation days. This is a concept I simply cannot grasp.

"just one more bike, just one more...then I'll be all set"
"This new bike will be my favorite"
" I'm done ... no more crack for me"
"I just want to be friends"
"The check is in the mail"

I started off with a Raleigh Talon mountain bike from the early 90s -- birthday gift from my husband. I barely rode it back then but when I decided to start riding again, I got it fixed up and started with that. I loved riding so much, I wanted to share it with my husband so I talked him into getting a bike -- a Trek Navigator 200, and while we were at the LBS, I talked to them about making changes on the Raleigh so that it was more comfortable. Turns out, that bike is too small for me so I got a Trek 7200 (hybrid.) Then my summer teaching hours changed and I was working until 8 every night -- too late to go to the Veloway to ride. I wanted to commute but I live in the Texas Hill Country, so I decided to get an electric bike, a Lashout. I love that bike and am now doing a one-way commute of 17.5 miles. I rode 25 miles for fun yesterday and had a blast. I want my husband to be able to ride with me and he doesn't ride enough to build up his stamina and muscles, so today he's going to pick up a Lashout for himself.
That makes five bikes between us. :D

Is there an wheels to age ratio that I need to be aware of?

Too many birdies on the golf course.
Those birdies can make a mess.
