Mountain Biking - I hate the Bontager Jones ACX tires on my new HKEK

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

They came stock on my Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo. They slip out from underneath me very often on wet surfaces and I fell twice when they seemed to get stuck in small ruts that never seemed to bother the tires on my old comfort bike. I dont feel confident doing any quick turns with these tires. It wierd because with the offset knobs on them they look like they would be great for traction. I might buy less aggressive tires and get better speed out of the bike. Any suggestions?

Since I'm the resident tire junkie on this forum. Before I make a reccomendation I need to know a few things.
1)Do you intend to take the bike offroad?
2)What psi were you running?
3)Are you on a budget for the tires?
It sounds like you are looking for more of an all around tire.
The tires I would look at are either Panaracer Fire XC or Cinder XC's, or the 26x2.1 WTB weirwolf.

KonaRider,
I mainly use the bike on hard packed nature trails and gravel roads. I also do some paved road riding to get to the trails. These tires call for a max of 60 lbs of air but I am running 40 lbs at this time. I am not a really agressive rider but on occasion I like to go off the beaten path and do some climbing. I believe you are correct that for most of the time, an all around tire would fit my needs more.
I am not on a budget for tires.
Thanks,
Steve
