hi I'm new to road biking but already hooked. looking to get my first real road bike soon for a try at racing in spring, any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated. :) I have about 1,000 dollars to spend.

Hey!

First have fun. I am riding like a maniac in Malibu on a Raleigh '03 Competition. To save money I recommend buying a two or three year old new model. Will save about 30%.

I agree . . . you can get a much better bike if You buy it "pre-owned" just a year or two. That's how I got a great deal on my LeMond Poprad. Keep an eye on craigslist.com for deals.

I recommend Supergo. Most of the people are helpful and their pricing policy is great. I bought an Allez Elite a month ago for $999 and have gotten price matched since. The last match was $899 w/ no tax, so about $830.
