I have to head to Boston in about a month. I know the hotel they booked me for may be a bit pricey (Sheraton Ferncroft Resort, Boston, MA), so I'm hoping there is a nearby hotel that is a little less pricey (within a couple of miles of the Sheraton). Does anyone know this area well?

Second, I had a friend (well, student) I used to teach back when he was in high school. He moved to Boston and was living in some transient hotel for a few years. In the last 2 years, I haven't been able to track the guy down. Is there a means of tracking someone in Boston, or is it something I should give up on? I'm concerned about him because he had some depression, and if I haven't heard from him in a couple of years, it may mean something bad. :( I figured a surprise visit from me may cheer him up some.

Ok, thanks for any help you all can give.

Just out of curiousity, if "they" booked you into an expensive hotel, aren't "they" paying for it? Or do "they" book you and leave you to fend for yourself on this trip?

They book, and I pay. :( I could go someplace else, but I just don't know the area well enough to find a hotel. Or if I had a map, I could definitely do better.

Koffee,

I did a google search and it looks like the Sheraton Ferncroft Resort is actually in Danvers, about 20 miles north of Boston on Rt 1. I did a search on Danvers Hotels and one the the sites was: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-476517-danvers_ma_vacations-i. Looks like there is a pretty good range from Mariot to Motel 6.

Good luck!

If you stay in Danvers, you're welcome to come down to Malden anytime you like to ride. It's like 10 miles away, but just follow Route 1 down.

Sorry, can't help you locate anyone. Maybe a Boston phonebook?

Wow, that's a bit odd. Why is someone else booking a trip you have to pay for? Don't you get to give them input on where to stay, price ranges you can afford?

Why are you going on this trip, anyway? Is this for work or something? If so... why don't you get any reimbursement?

It is yet another fitness convention, and they're going to be holding it at the Sheridan. They block out a bunch of rooms for people who want to attend, but I think that price is out of my range, and I figured I could find a nearby hotel that was a bit cheaper. I'm going to be there for four days, so the thought of dropping nearly 500 bucks on a hotel room nearly horrifies me.

Koffee,

As someone said above, it is really easy to find a motel inn, or holiday inn in the area. So dont worry about the sheraton with a little bit of searchning you will find something to fit your price range. Oh and are you bringing your bike? I would probably take it that you are not, but if you are head out to wayland. Or maybe I could head out to that area. But It really sounds like you arent, but whatever.

Good luck witheverything.

Oh btw, you'd be suprised what white pages.com, or anything like that can find you.

I read some of the reviews fo the cheaper hotels. Ewwwww. They at least have to clean the hotel room before I get there. Sheesh, they even clean hostels before they bring in the next wave of travellers. :-/

Where's Wayland in relation to this Danver area?

lol, you get what you pay for. If you really want cheap, there's Motel 6 in Danvers right off of Route 1 and 114

You get what you pay for, but I stay regularly in hostels, and the reviews made the hostels (which are cheaper than the cheapest hotels) seem cleaner. ;)

well koffee, it looks like wayland is a good amount from danvers, 34 miles. That isnt that bad. Plus I could always drive out there. Actually my cousin if he is willing to would have both of us in the car and eithor meet you at a half way point and ride, or ride in danvers. the guy knows so many routes it's not even funny.

Let me figure something out. Usually, the conventions are just days and days of nonstop classes, but if you can stand to do something afterwards, that could work. I can slip out at 4:30...
