OK, I posted a link to an eBay auction, about 10 days ago, concerning a Schwinn Sports Tourer. Some knucklehead actually paid $415 USD for an old fillet brazed Sports Tourer.
Apparently there are a lot of Knuckleheads when it comes to old fillet brazed Schwinns. Check out this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Schwinn-Sports-Tourer-1972-CrMo_W0QQitemZ6568615975QQcategoryZ95155QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
What is with these bikes? I understand that the fillet brazed Schwinns were nice bikes in their day, but they're no Paramounts. I'd never pay more than $100 for a bike like this. Does Al Queda have some kind of secret weapon that makes Americans pay stupid money for old garage sale bikes?
For one thing that bike is in Excellent condition. Looks like it
hardly saw any road time.
I'm not schwinn expert but I believe that the fillet brazed schwinns
were just a notch below the paramount series in quality (scooper? can I
get some help here?). I seem to recall that they are highly sought
after in the Schwinn pantheon, either that or I'm making this stuff
up (it could happen) based on senior moments and failing memory

I think it's probably older guys remembering what was hot in their younger years and wanting now what they couldn't afford then. They're probably not into bicycling in a serious way.
Marty, there's nothing wrong with your memory. In the early seventies the Sports Tourer was one step below the Paramount in the Schwinn heirarchy. In 1971, for example, the P13-9 Paramount sold for $350 and the Sports Tourer sold for $196. The next model in the heirarchy, the Super Sport, sold for $136.95 (I used to own a '72 Super Sport I had purchased new, but it got stolen several years ago).
Like Marty says, the one that's listed now appears to be in excellent condition.
wooohooo those 3 or 4 brain cells that survived the 60's are
