Trying to remember when I used to smoke... I think your problem may lie with skidding, and not skipping. I never really smash my pockets on my bars. Could be your setup maybe?

I always thought squished cigarettes were way cooler than unsquished cigarettes. Makes you look like you like you just got done with a street fight. The kind where the thugs from Corporation (tm) were trying to force poor, inner-city families out of their homes through bribes to the city council and other strong-arm tactics so they can build a Pharmaceutical Plant (tm). You finally save up enough from the bake sale to pay the lean on your grandma's house but that only pisses off the CEO of Corporation (tm) and as a final tactic, he sends his brute squad to try and scare the people out. But you and your rag-tag band of surly youth are able to overcome. In the fray, you get your nose broken. Merely a superficial wound, but ugly nonetheless. As you light your post-fight squished cigarette, Maria, the sexy young latina, pulls the cig from your lips and puts it out. "Those things will kill you," she says right before The Kiss (tm). Then, right before the credits begin to roll, you ride off on your fixed gear with Maria standing on the girlfriend pegs (which oddly, weren't there in previous scenes - such as the car chase. But this is an action movie. Continuity isn't really that important).

So, yeah... squished cigarettes = the ultimate cool.

Drum is way better than Bali Shag or Sampson in the US. At least, that's my opinion... The best stuff is fresh from a jar in a tobacco shop, though. But no matter what brand of hand roll, you can't squish something that hasn't been assembled yet...
