Mountain Biking - 321's or Outlaws

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Which would be a better choice for aggresive freeride/crosscountry riding -- the Mavic 321's w/ xt hubs or Azonic Outlaws. I can't find any reviews on the Outlaws but price is exact same. I probably won't ever do any drops over 6 feet but I want a wheel that I don't have to worry about. My singetracks w, xt's haven't lasted well at all. Any feedback will help because I'm buying tomorrow and still haven't decided. Thanks

I heard the Outlaws are damn strong for their strength.

thanks for the feedback. I've heard the same. But Azonics claim that they're light enough for x-country racing yet strong enough for the biggest stunts sounds like bull-spit. It actually scares me because it reminds me of a used car sells-man trying to tell me an escort will outlast a civic.

both rims and hubs are of comparable quality.
i know guys who swear by their outlaw wheels,
and 321's and xt's are tried and true.
you can't go wrong either way,
especially if they're the same price.
the only thing that could swing in favor of the mavic/xt combo
is if the wheelset is handbuilt (by a good builder).

I really like my EX729's (which I believe are the same thing as the 321's). I have, however, only heard good things about the outlaws. One thing though, I'm pretty sure the outlaw's rear wheel only comes in a 12mm thru-axle, so if your frame can't handle that they may not even be an option to begin with.

321's are amazing. Amongst the strongest wheels ever. I haven't heard much on outlaws. Not on the same level as 321's :)
