Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A pal of mine came home the other day with a '94 Scott Team Racing. His wealthy cousin was having a garage sale and just gave it to him. He doesn't ride, and I'm a road bike guy who knows squat about MTBs. I cleaned it up and gave it a general once-over; it's in real nice mechanical and cosmetic shape. The Manitou forks are working well, and the Deore rapid-fires are still firing rapidly. It's got pretty new tires, a Specialized computer, Zefal pump, and an under-saddle wedge bag with a nice tool kit.

He wants me to sell it for him, but I don't have a good idea what the going price for one of these might be, and I could only find one in eBay's closed auctions. It sold for just over $100, but that seems sort of low to me for the level of components and condition of this one but like I said, I'm out of my element.

What would be a realistic asking price on one of these? It's almost exactly like this one, except for the Manitou forks.

Bikes depreciate in value pretty quickly. $100 is not an unreasonable price for an 11 year old bike. The component technology has become quite refined in the last 5 years. Deore is mediocre grade stuff. Nobody runs cantilever brakes anymore. I wouldn't hope for anything above $200.
