Mountain Biking - Tool tool suggestion for removing a threaded headset

Hi guys,

My new fork is coming in tomorrow and I am taking apart my bike right now. I've now noticed that I'm not going to be able to get my headset off with the biggest wrench that I have. I have been looking at this website

The thing is, the only bike store near me does not carry the tools shown for purchase. Is there anything that you guys get from say, home depot that would do the same job?

From the website you referenced (and presuming your new fork is threadless and you don't care about saving your old headset):

Just a big adjustable wrench may do if there's no interference. I assume you've tried loosening it by hand, sometimes they're loose. As they say, the right tool for the right job. You may do well to order the correct tool from Performance or Nashbar and wait.

You may need to restrain the bearing cup (the other twistable object just below the locknut) as you loosen the locknut. Thin headset wrenches work best, but you can probably find something in the garage that works -- such as a channel lock plier on the bearing cup and a crescent wrench on the locknut.

Both of these tools are available at Home Depot.

i guess i took it as "headset wrenches" meant that they were made specifically for the job. I'll check out nashbar and decide if i should hit up home depot tomorrow. I'm hoping that I could possibly find a set of those thin wrenches. It'd always be nice to add to my rather small tool collection.
