Winter Cycling - 27" knobbies for snow?

Anyone know of any inexpensive 27" knobbies? I just finished a fixed gear conversion with 27" wheels just in time for SNOW. SO now I'm thinking I'm going to need to switch to knobbies to enjoy it in the snow.

Someone pointed me to Tioga Bloodhounds in 27x 1 3/8. They look perfect except that I have an allergic reaction to spending $50 for winter tires.

I recently spent about 14.00 a piece for some fairly aggressive
27" cyclocross tires from Kenda......
I no longer have them so I cant give any more specifics Like name etc,
but the Kenda website or LBS catalogue of Kenda stuff might help.

Problem solved! To my great surprise my LBS had a pair of Pyramid 27x1 3/8 knobbies for $12 each.

Just what the doctor ordered.

LOL. Oddly enough I had been looking for 27" knobbies myself and had searched for the Kendra tires earlier today. Accidentally ran across them looking for 26" semi-slicks on the BikePartsUSA site. (Odd huh?)

As for anti-LBS, there are a number of things I will gladly pay my lbs for - like replacing a headset on my 81 Schwinn so I don't have to deal with loose ball bearings any more. Local shops are nearly always going to have to have higher prices than online shops simply due to their overhead. When you're the customer you never like to realize that fact, but it's a fact none the less. If buying a couple of things for a buck or two more than I could get them online from time to time to keep the local shop around for when I do need service I can't do myself - I'll gladly do it.

Of course I was just goofing with the LBS stuff, and, now that I recall I actually
spent less than 14.00 because I got tubes too.......

My only other comment on the LBS scene.....I moved from and area that had LBS's
everywhere. YOu could take your pick. In the area of Vermont I just moved there
is nothing ! There are bike stores, but none that I could walk in and say
I need 27",1/38" Kenda Cross tires or a cotter for an old Peugeot.:cry:

Hm. Just looked into ordering some of these, and when I went to checkout, found that while the tires are indeed $8.99 a piece, shipping's another $13 here to NY. So that makes the total price $15.49 plus the hassle of dealing with making sure the package gets to me. Your LBS price was fine.

$13 for shipping... blah! I saw the $2 extra for over size charge, but dang.

Let's say they shipped them for $5. 2x9=18+5=23 shipped, and week to get them

My LBS had 2 in stock for 13 each that's 26-10% (accessories discount since I bought a bike)=23.40 and I got to ride home with 2 shiny new tires slung over my shoulder, and support my LBS which in turn supports several employees aka my neighbors, who in turn support me in my job.

and that's not to mention the fact that they support local cyclists in countless other ways not the least of which is keeping our bikes on the road.

OK I admit it I'm a cheap bastard, and I will go elsewhere when I can save a lot of money by doing so, lots of times they don't have what I'm looking for, but lots of other times they have saved my butt by having what I needed to get back on the road, and when they have what I need for a reasonable price I'm happy to buy it.

I don't feel to guilty about buying stuff from Nashbar though. my LBS gets plenty of my dough even if I AM a cheap bastard
