Mountain Biking - Specialized Stump Jumper or Gary Fisher Big Sur

Thinking about a new mountain bike and these 2 are the ones I am considering. I know the most important thing is fit, but other than that does anyone have experience with either?

Specialized stumpjumper is not a specific bike. There are like 6 different stumpjumpers including full suspension. If I could interest you in a stumpjumper m4 comp, its new and I will sell it for $900.

Or I could go to your website and buy it for $850. I'll pass.

By the way the 03 models are Stumpjumper and Stumpjumper Comp. They then get into the full suspension.

What size is it anyway. I see you have 3 bikes for sale but don't have the size on any of them. Or am I just missing it?

Hey gabiker, I own a 2001 Stumpjumper M4 and I love it. It's a 20.5" frame with a 24" top tube. I know the newer models have longer top tubes, i.e., the 19" frame now has the 24" top tube. If I'm not mistaken the Gary Fisher Big Sur also runs a long top tube, but with a shorter stem to compensate for the bike's geometry.

Wow klein you seem to push selling your bikes in almost every thread. your really desperate aren't you.

Out of curiousity, why do you have so many bikes. And on your website you mention that you have riden the specialiazed only once. If that is the case why did you buy it, and why don't you ride it.

I have a "02 big sur and love it.I cant say enough good about it.I would vote for it.But i just bought a stumpjumper m4 pro frame for my wife and got it today(time to start building!).So i do like these as well.But i would still say big sur.

well ja "Stumpjumper" isn't very specific since there are the Hardtails (M4 i think) and the FullSuspension FSRs.

for the FSR XC, there is a base model, a Comp, a Pro (and in Europe a race model called Marathon).

I have the '02 FSR XC and i love it. i have had a few problems with the rear Fox fork (it's finally fixed for the 2nd time), but otherwise it's great and the geometry is good. On the Comp most of the stock parts are just "ok" and you could shave a bunch of weight, but for the price i think it is good. (more bike for $ than Trek or GF Sugar). Probably my only complaint is that the shocks sits under the seat-post so you can't drop the seat all the way down and it gets all the dirt from the rear tire. As i understand for 2003, Specialized is dropping the FSR and using the new "Brain" which is a longer lower-pressure shock thar runs as one of the beams of the rear triangle... looks good

For the Hardtails, i think the Specialized are good, but i don't know a lot -- i also have an '89 Stumpjumper but that's virtually pre-historic now.
