I'm thinking of putting together a survival kit for one of those "just in case" things. What would happen if all I was stuck with was toliet water? Would this REALLY work?

A) the water in the tank is clean. If you have to go to the bowl, think about using purification. If you have to improvise, use a capful of chlorine bleach rather than some expensive kit. If you really want to plan ahead, get a water filter/purifier meant for backpacking. In the end though, you're not going to get more than 3-5 gal from each toilet, so don't count on that as your emergency backup.

Naw, man. I'm going to slowly build my supply of water- I hope to have about 50 gal stored away in the event of an emergency in the next few months, plus a half a pantry of canned goods that don't need cooking, as well as rations of energy bars. That'll take care of my food and water, then I just have to worry about emergency supplies like those emergency blankets, a good first aid kit, batteries, etc.
