Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - SF fixed gear "class" tonight

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Weather is still nice.
SF come out and play bicycles
We will meet at the Rollerskater spot in Golden Gate Park on JFK drive between 7th and 8th Ave at 7pm this evening.
Tomorrow, same deal but at 9pm at the bow and arrow on the EMB (folsom and embarcadero).
We will work on backwards circles, skids, etc. for a little bit then proceed to some riding around town. I also hope to cover burrito and beer skill towards the end of the class.
What to bring - yourself and a bicycle.
This is of course free of charge and a non-corporate event.
Hope to see you there!
No way man, I thought we were doing this on Thursday night at the embarcadero.

Thursday at the embarcadero too!!
This is the ride week!
Is Adidas sponsoring this? I've always been an Adidas fan anyway. And they actually make cycling stuff.

i wonder what 165 thinks of adidas.
he thinks they exploit cycling and soccer way too much and as of yet are underexploiting basketball and hockey
Thursday night will be sponsored by Miller High Life.
I'm much faster when I have 32oz of the champagne of beers in me...
Edit: Thursday night 9pm at the bow and arrow on the EMB (folsom and embarcadero).

I wear them. sleep easier.
I'm in for Thursday night! just found out class is cancelled! woohoo.
I have a schedule conflict, can we offer another section?
There will also be classes offered on Saturday day and Friday night. As I said this is ride week. Exact times and locations are TBD.
oh and sunday we're planning a planet of the apes ride too!
Can't play Sunday, but definitely would like to hear about it. Have been eyeing it for a while in the little book now.

where is that? my training partner mentioned it today, but she didn't know where it is.
It is South towards Half Moon Bay. It is detailed in the Short bike rides san francisco book. Looks very interesting and I do want to do it sometime soon.
I guess there are some rought patches on the Planet o apes ride. Sounds more like SS/MTB terrain to me, unless this is a new fixedgear-cyclocross-fireroad/singletrack-bombing contigent.

we had a ride like that in east bay too that went through some old/sketchy industrial areas north of berkeley. i wish i remembered the route as it isn't listed on the cal cycling route page either. tears.
i just remember riding on some super sketchy part around the water that was some old abandoned bike path with monster ruts that sucked someone's wheel right into it. he was feeling the pain.

i think i've done that ride! does it go out on like, cutting through richmond/el cerrito and then back around through the seacliff resident community? i had my roadie at the time, so i didn't get to actually experience the ruts, but i'm pretty sure i know where you're talking about.
or are you talking about just the bay trail that ends up near the richmond marina and then you can go check out the port of richmond where the cranes are? there's a big abandoned warehouse over near there that looks like it's pretty amazing inside...
and the half moon bay ride is totally rad. if it's the same one i've done, it's out amongst the salt marshes. the smell is incredible, but it's worth it just for the scenery. that area is pretty flat, but coming from the east bay and then continuing back up toward SF from the dumbarton bridge is pretty hilly.
How long do you plan on doing this? i am thinking about doing a recon of SF.i plan on moving there,,maybe,
S/F,
CEYA!
Let us know when you're out here, I'd be happy to ride around with you.
49 mile loop fixie tour!!!
Ceya would be an esteemed guest of our fair city.
First the 49 mile loop and then the Barbary coast trail!!

Ok, here ya go, Clayton doing the infamous trick from Super Rookie, then his standing on the wheel skid, me being a jackass, SpikeLateen on the EMB, trackstand on the gg bridge, and a helpful sign for us cyclists...

Sections of the planet of the apes ride are on the old highway 1 which snakes up over the hills. Some of the old road is there, but thers a lot of single-track in places and its a decent climb. Did it on a cylcocross bike and it was tricky in places, especially if you go back the way you came. The descent is a blast.
Good luck doing it on your fixie.
SFBC has this to say about it:
The name refers to an abandoned stretch of Highway 1 that can make you feel like you’re Charlton Heston, the last human on the planet. The broken pavement is surrounded by thick poison oak and brush, but it is an entirely pleasant, car-free climb up a ridge. From SF, ride south to Pacifica. Try out the new stretch of bike path from Rockaway Beach to Linda Mar. Turn off Hwy 1 at Linda Mar Blvd., then take Adobe to Higgins, and enter a forgotten world. Plenty of good mountain biking, or you can keep going all the way to the Montara hostel if you like (road bikers will need to walk a few stretches). Instead of riding Hwy 1 back home, take the uphill bike lane on Sharp Park Blvd. You’ll fly back down to South San Francisco BART near historic Molloy’s bar, open all afternoon.
last night was good fun, thanks!
That was such a blast! Funnest weeknight in a long time!
Very nice meeting/seeing you all!

My right ass cheek is numb. Thanks Judah.
On that Planet of the Apes thing...no one said anything about patchy pavement! Crap, time to build up a cyclocross...
Yeah maybe we'll have to consider a different long distance route for sunday.
Mikorp you guys ride at the clock tower often?

yup. good times. let's do it again soon. (while we still have some good weather!)
Saturday afternoon ride.
Meet 12 noon at the Rollerskater spot in GGP.
Little bit of trixing and then a casual stroll through assorted neighbourhoods of our beautiful city.
I might make it out, depends how far I get setting up my place. I gotta hit up freewheel since they have my hub and they aren't getting any 36h polished fusions :( Instead I'm gonna build it onto the other EAI rim, it'll be heavy but a matching set will be nice...

I will be in that place at that time.
