Summer is ending and I was just wondering
how many miles everyone has done so far this year.

How many did you do last year?

I have 1325 in this year and I did about 450 last year.

First off, I know how good it feels to increase mileage over the previous year. That sort of accomplishment is measured physically and mentally.
I have over 5,800 miles since January 3. The exact number is lost in a wayward computer during the 1st week in May, so I probably fudged a 100 miles or so. Anybody that has ever fished knows that technique.
We had a terrible Spring this year, or I think I would have had another 500-750 miles. I ended up doing lots 20-25 mile days during Spring and chalking it up to wind training.
While it feels good to do a little bragging about my total miles, being able to do a bunch of miles just feels good. It gives me credibility to do more miles, more scenic roads and bigger hills. I now crave miles and scenery. If I don't get out I feel cheated.
Keep rolling.

About 4000 miles last year. Since July 15 this year just over 950 miles.

so far since Jan 1:
Commuter/Hardtail: 3500km (2190mi) -- about 3000m vertical
XC/Fully: 3000km (1875mi) -- also 42,000m vertical
road: 200km (125mi) -- about 200m vertical

= 6700km (4200miles)

last year i don't have a good count since i lost my cycle computer in September, but about 8000km (5000 miles)

this year since Jan 1 i also have logged 45,000m vertical (148,500 ft). actually for me, vertical meters climbed is probably a more important statistic since i ride mostly off-road and huge hills here in the Alps!

On Audax rides:
5x200 = 1000
300
400
600

total 2300

commuting: approx 50k per week. (would be 200k if I had the gumption to do it every day) = 38 *50 = 1900

Total = 4200 kilometers = 2610 miles

As of today, (17th September) just over 5600 km. I've already passed last year's total and the best cycling months are still ahead. We're just into Spring with Summer around the corner.

I keep a daily cycling log. As of today, it is 5,946 miles for 2002 with a 450 mile Nevada tour coming up next week. With luck September will have over 1,000 miles alone. Here we have pretty good cycling until December 1, except for the unfortunate loss of daylight savings time. hate that..... Hope I might surpass my best year yet of over 8,400 miles in the year 2000.

70 miles!! Woohoo!! :D Of coarse I only started riding about a month ago so I'm nowhere close to being in good shape yet. :D
Got a new bike now so I hope to add a lot to that number by the end of the year.

5,362 miles since the beginning of the year. Funny, but my mileage decreases during the summer. House guests to tour around and lots of ball games to go to.

6114km (3800mi) since mid-March (winter is no good time for biking here), including 19 rides of century-distance or longer (all but five solo). The big difference to my previous best years (5600km in 1999 and 5400km last year) is the lack of a tour this year. In 1999 I did Paris-Lisbon (4600km), and last year Barcelona-Venice (2800km with an estimated 40,000m altitude gain).

I have over 2590 miles since March of this year which is when I started riding. I hope to have over 4000 by years end and should get about 700 of them in the next 3 weeks.

Not bad for a 49 year old beginner. ;)

Yeah for me! (newbie)

Actually, I just got started riding 2 months ago, so I think 478 is pretty good for 2 months. It sure feels like I have spent alot of time on the bike. (my wife sure thinks so....hence my name of "rides2much")
I hope to do get to 1500 before the end of the year and I have a goal of 3000 next year.

In my second full year of cycling, I've got 2700 miles since May 22 of this year. I'm psyched, this is so fun! I'm shooting for 10k miles by next May. Fun and luck to us all!

4373 miles since Jan. 1. That's all of 'em; commuting, training, centuries, etc. My target is 6000 for the year, or at least 5000. It may require some foul weather riding. (I'm a wimp.)

I am at about 5450 miles, 5050 on my road bike and 450 on my commuter. The days are getting shorter and I am now doing my morning rides mostly in the dark. I hope to get in a couple more centuries before the end of the year and the local MS150 is coming up on Sept. 28, so I may make it to 7000 before the end of the year. All depends on the weather...

Last year's total was probably about 500. I really didn't start piling up miles until this year after I got my road bike at Christmas.

Try to get a minimum 250 a week in to keep competitive in Cat2.
This is Sept = month 9, about 9,000 miles.

A friend of mine is a Cat1 on Mazda/Simple Green Team - he gets 550 in a week, that would put him at 19,800 so far this year !

Ouch !

I bought my first bike in june so my year goes from june to june.

Last year was roughly a thousand miles and as with everyone else decided to try to beat my mileage this year, buying the road bike this June greatly helped. Total so far this year is 950 miles.

I did set myself a target of 1,500, I think I might have to ammend that .:)

Toninator - what cyclocomputer do you have?
Some like the Shimano flight deck require a convoluted process to first get to the TIM screen, then press start for it to work. Others like the Polar S-710 and etc.. are so complicated, I do not know how they even sell these. Others like the CatEye Solar work with the Puch of a button to start and stop. Still others like to Vetta cordless start and stop automatically. They all work differently. Its no wonder you had trouble.

I've got the Campy ergo brain on my bike and it works great. Is a bit difficult to learn, but easier then the 7-10. I also have the Polar S-710 and it was easy to figure out and setup... I wear it all the time. Course I taught myself VBasic programs too.

I don't know for this year, but I do know that I had the pleasure of watching my mtn bike odometer turn from 6,999 miles to 7,000 miles last week. Now, it doesn't matter that there were about 300 miles when I lost the head of my computer (found it in the van) nor that my computer is about 2-3% slow, it still was a pleasure watching that thing go from 6,999 to 7,000.

Now I have to wait for the road bike to catch up - it is approaching 6,000 miles.

Anyone else get a kick out of watching the odometer make those x,000 statements??
