Hey all!

I just picked up some brand new 2006 Avid BB7 Disc Brakes on ebay for $140 ($10 bucks cheaper than pricepoint)

Here are the specs to my bike (http://www.trekbikes.com/bikes/2005/mountain/4300.jsp), Unfortunately the specs are incorrect, probably for the disc model

I have Bontrager Connection Trail tires instead of the Bontranger ACX

I have Shimano non-disc hubs, and the rims are WTB 32H dual duty (the sticker on it says disc compatible)

So, i'd need new wheels (or hubs if i'm good at lacing) and a new cable set.

After looking around on pricepoint, I found two that look decent for around $100 and a bit more,

Shimano Deore Disc Wheelset w/ Sun Rhyno Lite Rims (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/12001-365_SHIDD2-3-Parts-75-Wheelsets/Shimano-Deore-Disc-Wheelset-w_-Sun-Rhyno-Lite-Rims.htm) for $99 in black and the same rims with Shimano XT M756 hubs (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/12012-365_SHIXS3-3-Parts-75-Wheelsets/Shimano-XT-M756-Disc-Wheelset-w_-Sun-Rhyno-Lite-Rims.htm). Is it worth the extra $40 bucks for XT hubs? Also, how do these Sun Rhyno Lite Rims compare to my WTB Dual Dutys?

Nashbar has the Mavic XM117 Black Rim with Deore M525 Disc Hubs (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=&sku=13460&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=) for $110 (they also have 10% coupon)

The cable sets i've been looking at are made by Avid. On pricepoint, I found their Straight Jacket Cable set (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/11116-050_AVDSJ8-3-Parts-49-Cables/Avid-Straight-Jacket-Cable-Set.htm) for $13 (why is the thinner shifter cable more expensive?) and the Full Metal Jacket Disc Brake Cable Set (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/11114-050_AVDDB2-3-Parts-49-Cables/Avid-Full-Metal-Jacket-Disc-Brake-Cable-Set.htm) for $30. Is it worth the extra? Delta also makes a Teflon Brake cable Set (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/11118-050_DELBC0-3-Parts-49-Cables/Delta-Teflon%AE-Brake-Cable-Set.htm) for $20. Hmm? Nashbar had some crappy (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=&sku=13210&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=) ones for $5 bucks too, I wouldn't imagine they would be too good...

The Rhyno Lite rim is a favorite amongst the people here and yes it is worth the extra $40 to get the ones with the XT hubs. With the frame, you will probably need to go to your local bike shop to get the disc brake adapter for your frame. Instead of the full metal jackets from avid, use Odyssey slik cable instead, it works as well as the full metal jackets do and costs less than the Avid full metal jackets and Delta's offerings.

Brake cable housing is coiled, shift cable is not. I suppose one is cheaper to make than the other.

Jenson USA has some good deals on wheelsets. And I think you'll need an adaptor to bolt the avid rotors to the XT hubs. I don't think you need this adaptor with the deore. But look into this because I'm not sure.

I'm somewhat leaning toward the XT hubs because they seem much better!

According to supergo (http://www.supergo.com/profile.cfm?LPROD_ID=20318&lmfg_id=158&searchtext=&referpage=#), they are standard 6 bolt mounts.

My frame and fork has I.S. 51mm mounts :) Disc brake ready! (except for the hubs, doh!)

I will take a look at Jenson USA and the Odyssey silk Cable.

Keep the replys commin! I want your opinions!

At that price, they're probably the 6 bolt ones, not Centerlock.

the same rims with Shimano XT M756 hubs (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/12012-365_SHIXS3-3-Parts-75-Wheelsets/Shimano-XT-M756-Disc-Wheelset-w_-Sun-Rhyno-Lite-Rims.htm). Is it worth the extra $40 bucks for XT hubs?Yup. I use them myself and I got mine from Pricepoint as well. I've had the wheelset since Dec. 2003 and haven't had an issue with them at all
Also, how do these Sun Rhyno Lite Rims compare to my WTB Dual Dutys? You're kidding right?
Delta also makes a Teflon Brake cable Set (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/11118-050_DELBC0-3-Parts-49-Cables/Delta-Teflon%AE-Brake-Cable-Set.htm) for $20. Teflon coated cables running in teflon lined housing is never a bad way to go. Personally I'd suggest these (http://www.drycables.com/html/about_dry_cables.html) they're essentially the same as the Gore Ride On cables I use on my BB7's
