Foo - Torrents, Codecs, Bleargh

I just got broadband again, and there are a lot of shows that I don't have access to that I'm getting episodes of. Some of them I've watched through NetFlix, some I own, but the current episodes aren't available yet. So I'm using BitComet to get low quality previews, but I keep having problems with the codecs.

I'm a little out of the loop as to what everyone is using now. Like Stargate Season 9 shows up with video, but no audio... What are the more popular codecs that I need to be able to see what people are putting out there on the web nowadays?

Stay away from codec packs, they're a tonne of sh*t you don't need in those things. Check out the VLC video-player (http://www.videolan.org). Handles most of the video files out there without having to install any codecs! :)

Defilerpak is the only pack I would ever recommend, and it's maintained by a guy who dislikes all those ********, bloated "fix it all and throw in some spyware" downloads. Also it is much cooler than you. :p

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunatly, none really worked for the files in question, but I do have a better idea what's wrong. I updated my quicktime player, and now quicktime can play the audio, but not the video. Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic can do the video, but not the audio. The other players just error out. Grrr...

I'll 2nd the recommendation on VLC. Great little media player.
