Okay, I just paid too much for some sti levers to upgrade the red rocket... that is my old paramount os2. Anyway, what all will I need to install these bad boys? I haven't wrenched in the sti era... it looks like i will need some sort of hozzle to fit on the brazeon down tube thingies... Any ideas? I'm on a budget so creativity counts here... Thanks!:D

They are called cable stops. Usually included with new levers. Obviously cable and casing and correct tool to cut the casing.Levers install with a 5mm wrench. No instructions with them?

The real deal shimano ones go for alot more than than that.LBS might have some el-chepo plastic ones for a couple bucks each with no a adjusters in them.

well, i am working on that too. i have heard that you can make these work on a 7 speed if you just be mindfull of your shifting... I am in process of locating a new derailer and wheelset. All my stuff is really old and the bike is a beater... just can't beat the ride though. ANYTHING is better that the original exage ex500! when I lost my sponsoship, i had to give back the c-record groupo and the time trial bike! That was in '93... Oh well:rolleyes:

You need the correct cutter for the casing, otherwise you crush it. a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel works if you have one. A hacksaw with a fine blade and light touch canalso do it.Buy bulk brake and derailer casing at LBS. Take a rough measurement from handlebars to cable stops and to brake levers. Buy a few extra feet. It's relatively cheap.Too short sucks.

If you bought 8 speed STI shifters, they will usually shift 7 speed shimano index cogset even though the cog spacing is different.

Tex,
You can get the stuff you need online. Since you need little pits and parts rather than actual components, harriscyclery.com would be a good place to start. Unlike with old 10 speeds You need two different types of cable and housing. Brake cable and housing are thicker, like the old stuff. Also the ends of the cables are different. Be sure to let the vendor know you need cables and housing for an STI setup. They will know what to seel you. You might do better with cable sets which Harris sells. Also be aware that some cables come with different terminators on each end, old style and new. Be very sure which one you will be using so you don't cut off the wrong end.

Check through the archives. A couple of times people have posted a Shimano Europe site that has exploded drawings, once pretty recently. I thought I had bookmarked it, but apparently not. I know Hunter posted a thread over a year ago titled something like "Here it is" you might look for that one.
Hope this helps,
Raymond

Tex,

Check with Branford Bikes (http://www.branfordbike.com/) they carry lots of small parts.
I just bought the Campy cable adjusters and they were
about $6.00 at the LBS. Check e-bay for cables if you're
on a tight budget and don't care about the wait.
