I'm considering buying a Merlin road bike frameset ( 2yrs old, but never built). It's a better size than my current bike, a DeRosa Planet, but it will involve puchasing a threaded headset etc. The Planet is nice and very "cool", but I'm " tempted by titanium". Any good or bad experiences with a Merlin would be appreciated. Thanks.

You'd have a hard time finding anything better than Merlin. They started out as custom builders, I think, and had a very good reputation. They are now owned by Litespeed, but still maintain a separate company.

They ride nice, respond well, absorb a lot of road shock and are just fine bikes.

Chris King makes adapters to convert from threaded to no thread HS.

Oh, I've had one for 3 years. Love it.

Both are built at the same facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. :)

Get the frame! Top quality workmanship and a ride you'll enjoy for years to come.

They aren't owned by Litespeed. The Outfit that owns Litespeed bought Merlin. Merlin makes good stuff.Problem is some of it may be suitable or unsuitable for your size, weight and riding needs. Just becaues it is a Merlin does not mean you need it. It has to be the right Merlin and it has to fit. Ti is not a magic material either.
