Mountain Biking - Disc rotor problem

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey my front rotor sometimes scrapes along the left, well side part that moves to grip the rotor, and when I go pretty fast it makes the ringing noise like on a little kids bike horn maker thing, and makes me seem like a loser if any one hears it lol. What should i do?? Ive tried unpulling the knob at the end of that bar that connects to the bottom fork thing ( sorry I don't know all the technical terms) and twisting the other end circle screw at a different configuration to where the rotor moves away a little from the scraping side. It sort of worked lol. so ne other ideas??
ps-what are some good brand who make steel chainrings lol?
You really don't have to use "lol" as a period bub. What you're saying isn't a joke. Also "ne" isn't acceptable here. (Read the Guidelines) You saved a whopping single keystroke and made yourself look like a illiterate 12 year old AOL'er in the process.
On to the question:
What brand / model brakes are we talking about here? What you need to do is set them back to the way the instructions designate and true your rotor. Basically this means gently bending the rotor back to straight with a crescent wrench
you need to mess with the thing that the brake wire goes through, and the barrel on the lever. this should fix the problem.
*edit* or what raiyn said
Well I didn’t signify that the "lol" I proclaimed to be preordained as a joke. Ease up Mr. Raiyn. Furthermore, I on no account obtained any instructions. Oh yeah...lol.
Pharque. If Johnny Carson were alive, maybe he could put on a turban and guess what kind of brakes you have. Barring that, I'd say the noise is caused by friction.

Could it be the rotors flexing while cornering?
Yeah that happens some times also. I looked at it when i took the tire off and it looked slightly slighty uneven. When I ride and clamp the brakes together, but not so the bike will slow down or anything, just so it touches the side, i hear it scrape a bit then i dont, then i do, then dont. So i guess it is uneven at one part. what should I do?

find the part where it touches and gently bend it the opposite way. so if the rotor touches the left pad, bend it right, or vise versa. just keep spenning the wheel and giving the rotor little tweeks where it touches. u'll probly have to do it several times. everyone says use a cresent wrench, but i dont feel comfortable with that. i use my bare hands. good luck bro.
oh and raiyn, its AN illiterate 12 year old. ;)

I hope you wear rubber gloves or sometihng else to protect the rotors from your oily fingers.
If practice makes perfect, and no body's perfect, why practice?
that makes no sense lol, first perfect has to be a noun and the 2nd an adjective. But for Mr. Raiyn i'd say it like..dat makes nos sense, fust puh'fect gots'ta t'be some noun and da dam secund noun b an adjective. Lol vv#@t /-\r3 u gunn0 d0 now:)

I'm guessing you have the hayes hmx's or the tektro's on the bike, in that case the only thing you can do is adjust it via the pinch bolt.
If practice makes perfect, and nobody's perfect, why practice?
Another hardheaded newbie. You're not the first, and you're not the worst I've dealt with either. Not even close.
Why do I care what shortcuts people take or how poorly they spell?
Because we have standards of communication here that make it easier for everyone to understand each other.
The forum guidelines that you agreed to when joining the site state:
"Please do your best when it comes to grammar, punctuation and spelling. Excessive use of "AOL'ese" and "hAx0r" talk can be very disruptive so please keep it to a minimum."
You want to look like a worthless idiot? That's fine. Do it somewhere else. Continuing to communicate with poorly spelled moronic gibberish and / or AOL'ese is never going to gain you any respect from me or any of the other members here.
In addition, this forum is visited by THOUSANDS of people a day. Some are members, MOST of them are guests who are looking for someplace where they can ask a question and get an intelligent response. "I wud git dat b4 u 4get or ur gunna be srry thx" Is NOT an intelligent looking response no matter how correct the information (once translated) is. Another thing to consider is people from other countries who have enough trouble with proper English trying to make sense of a bunch of letters and non-standard abbreviations.
You want others to respect your opinions? Type them so anyone can read them not just "ur homies" I don't expect perfect spelling and grammar, but you're mangling words a second grade student could handle which is totally unacceptable, not to mention just plain sad.
Raiyn, don't go to the advocacy threads. If you saw Nova's posts, you would have a heart attack.

Wrong. I try to avoid contractions.

Alright thanks.
