Hey... introducing myself... I am going to be looking for advice from you avid cyclers... as I am buying a bicycle for my boyfriend who is anxious to get one... he is very athletic, big guy (but fit), and he wants something for fitness as well as perhaps a triatholon someday (maybe once or twice). Any thoughts?

Look in the road bikes forum for the thread at the top on under $700 road bikes. It will tell you what characteristics to look for. You can also spend a lot more than $700. There are bikes specifically designed for triathlons, but may not be the best if he will also do other types of riding. Good luck.

Hi jvisek - nice of you buy a bike for your BF!! I'm a little envious - after 15 years of marriage, my wife rolls her eyes when I mention that I might need to add another to my stable (of course she's heard that once or twice before, so who could blame her). I agree with AndrewP on the bike under $700 thread. I have a very reasonably priced Specialized Allex that I love (after I replaced the tires) - you might check that one out. Welcome to Bikeforums - enjoy!!
