Road Cycling - "Compact" steel frame bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm in the market for a Road Bike - currently have MTB. I've decided that I want a steel framed bike. Looked at the Fuji Roubaix pro. What I really want is a "compact" steel frame. Price range is up to 2K. Which manufacturers offer road "compact" steel framed bikes?
OldnSlo,
To start, welcome to the Forums, I think you'll find it
a nice place (unlike that other place).
If you're serious about the bike, Serotta makes
Steel compact frames, but they might be stretching
your budget a bit. You're post wasn't clear to me,
is $2k for the frame, or entire bike?
just out of curiousity, why steel (and fwiw I ride steel)?

Thanks for response - the frame on the Fierte is exactly what I am looking for. I was originally plannon on the CDale R1000 sport 2003 model. After reading about Al frames being stiff, and frequently cracking, I started looking for a bike with similar frame design in steel. So here is my ideal bike:
Steel- Compact frame - like Serottta Fierte (or frame geom of Cdale R1000)
105 or Ultegra Grouppo
Decent wheels
Price - around $2,000.
Leaning towards steel because of "comfort" and reliability - I weigh 225. Also want the geometry of the "compact" frame.
Anyone make a bike that meets the above criteria?
While I ride a serotta albeit an older one,
I can honestly say the R1000 shouldn't be all that
bad a ride. Yeah Al is stiff, but remember most
of the complaints about stiffness come from lightweight
riders. I'd give it a good test ride.
The Fuji's which you mentioned are nice bikes.
OH yeah, Univega Modo volare (or something
like that), gets very good press (and is campy daytona/centaur).
just out of curiosity, why compact frame?
