View Full Version : Further proof I'm a knucklehead

Although there's already an abundance of such proof, today serves as another example.

I decide to ride around the bay, so I have to transport the bike by car to a starting point. I'm feeling lazy and don't want to set up the bike rack, so I just remove the front wheel and get ready to put the bike in the back seat. I'm parked too close to a post in the carport, however, and have to back the car up a bit to get the back door fully open.

I do so, and put the bike (minus the front wheel) into the back seat. I make sure I have everything else -- wallet, cell phone, etc. I pull on the seatbelt and begin to back up.

HOLD IT! Where's the front wheel? Did I put it in the trunk?

Um, no. I had leaned it against the back of the car. I get out and look around, and sure enough, it's now UNDER the car and looks like the car's rear tire is resting atop it.

Muttering a few choice words, I pull the car forward again and retrieve the wheel. There's a God in Heaven -- the wheel appears unharmed. It probably simply fell over and the car rolled over it, but not ON it.

I get to the bay, mount the wheel, and set off, having a chilly but refreshing ride around the bay, and... the wheel is fine. Still true.

But nonetheless, I've more proof I'm a knucklehead.

No, you're not a knucklehead. A knucklehead would have made SURE the wheel was in the right path to ironed.

An advanced knucklehead would have not seen the wheel his car harmlessly drove over, left it behind in the car port, gotten to the bay-- and then discovered he had no wheel on a beautiful day.

I always leave my Road Morph sitting on the bumper of my truck. You'd think I would have learned the first time, when I lucked out and it was still there after going to the gas station and back...but noooo...I have lost like three of them this year alone.

Years ago when I was taking a class on soldering in the good ole USMC, I had a feller sitting next to me who dropped his hot soldering iron on the floor. He reached down and proceeded to pick it up by the hot end. "OUCH" he drops it again...and proceeds to pick it up again, BY THE HOT END AGAIN!! Now that, my friends is a pure knucklehead.

Went with a friend to a ride in Milw. some years ago. My friend (being anal retentive about such things) had clearly marked on the dash, in front of him, height of bike on top from ground level. Stopped at a drivethru bank to get cash, where the height of the overhang was clearly marked by a signhanging down. My bike being shorter was untouched.

I have to remove my front wheel to mount my bike on the roof rack. One day after a mtn bike ride, I remove the wheel, mount the bike and forget the wheel that was leaning against my drivers side rear fender and drive home. About four days later, I load the bike onto the car and drive to my favorite trail again only to find out that I have no front wheel in the back of my car. Now I never remove it from the car except to put back on the bike, so when I got home, I had no knowledge that I had forgotten it.. Anyway, I'm at the trail and can't ride, so I go to visit a friend and while there, I see the kid next door who works at the LBS that I frequent. I inquire about the cost of a new wheel explaining what happened to mine and he tells me he had been hiking where I left the wheel and he found it and hung it up on a sign at the end of the road. Well, away we go to check out the sign and sure enough, it's gone. I go home dejected. I check my e-mail for the first time all week and there's a message from another friend telling me she saw a wheel hanging from a sign a few days ago and wasn't it strange that someone would be so stupid as to leave a wheel in the woods?
This was the same summer that I attempted to drive into my garage with my bike on the roof and also lost my seat pack on the trail (it got found by the same person who e-mailed me about the wheel), drove off with my helmet on the roof (yup, new helmet)and misplaced my cell phone and after buying a new one, found the one I had lost in one of my bike shoes.
I swear to God....true story. My wife is on these forums so I don't dare lie. :o
Do you still feel like a knucklehead, Gary?

Naaah, yer not a knucklehead... All the ladies of a certain age in my water aerobics class used to call episodes like this "senior moments". I call them "meno-moments" as I am on the verge of menopause. You should call them senior moments as I can tell by looking at your pic that you are somewhat estrogenically challenged!

OMG! I am not worthy! I'm not worthy! I'm not a knucklehead after all! Or perhaps, I'm just a KIT - Knucklehead in Training?

You guys (he said, without regard for gender) are cracking me up! Yes, I'm estrogenically challenged and I guess I shall start calling such lunacy a senior moment. Makes sense to me!

Hahaha. My brother spent 20 years in the Corps, and he had a number of stories like that - except they would usually be with the guy *deliberately* picking it up by the hot end. Must be a Marine thing...

I've been informed that I left out one important detail of my bike adventures..............I actually drove into the garage with the bike on top TWICE, in the same season. Laugh if you'd like, my neighbor thought it was hilarious too! I'd make the door opening bigger but it seems my wife has hidden all my tools. Hmmm.

Some day I'll tell you all about the day I went for a ride and forgot my bike..........

D. G.; Sounds like my ride yesterday. Anyway, I am not sure which I miss more: 1. Barely being able to do one thing at a time (vic the 3 @ a time I used to be able to do) or 2. My eyesight. Glad you were able to ride. Bob.

I was about 30 when I went to shoot bambi and left my gun at home. 150 mile trip to sit in the woods and watch my brother hunt. Never did shoot bambi. Stopped trying now.

I never shot Bambi either. Shot at him/her once but it seems I was as good a hunter as I am a cyclist............ Deer hunting here is in Dec. (if memory serves correctly, I've not hunted in 40 years) and you'd likely freeze to death sitting in the woods for too long.

A knucklehead would have put the wheel in the car and ran over the bike.
