I had read the articles on 63xc.com, and thought that it was just a small sect of nutjobs in some far away land that actually rode singletrack with fixed gears. Until yesterday, thats what I thought. I was riding in the Poto SingleSpeed World Championships (www.hellridersmtbc.com/psswc05) and I had caught and started to follow someone through the woods, when I realized that he only had a front brake. I was stunned. Then, I realized that he wasn't coasting EVER. Not even on downhills. I finally made the connection when we both got off and walked a steep hill, and as he was pushing, the pedals were turning. I told him that I was amazed to see a fixed gear off road and how much fun it looked. He was the smoothest, most flowing mountain biker I have ever seen, and I was truly amazed by how well he could negotiate technical trail features. He was on a beautiful titanium bike with some nice, narrow bars that looked like cut off road drops, but I didn't get a good look.

what did he have to say for himself?

We were both fighting for oxygen at the time, he could only manage a pained "thanks" and a "I rode it here last year"
