Just did an MTB biathlon in South Korea yesterday. 28 km (17 miles) riding and two rounds of target shooting. It was a blast. About 250 participants took part from ages 12-75. Just wondering if there are any similar events in North America.

Biathlon? There's duathlons and triathons over here, but I've never heard of a biathlon involving target shooting. I'm sure someone has heard of these events in North America though.

I didnt think guns and cycling went hand in hand!

There was just a run ride(mtb) race over the weekend...

You would be surprised at how much fun it really is. It was very well organized and the target event wasn't just paper stuck to a piece of plywood. It was real olympic biathlon style with the same guns and targets and organized by the official olympic biathlon coaches. Just substitute the skis for the bike, subtract the snow, add some mud and turn up the temperature about 50 degrees. I think it would be interesting to try in North America. It's something new. However, as a rule, I would not be carrying a gun around on my bike.

actually, no...

however...

my girlfriend and i were thinking of trying to organize something like this- a mtn bike race combined with 10m air pistol shooting. try to shoot a target with an air pistol wilst getting your heart rate down from ~190 and still hit a target!

HA!

we are in california.

cheers!

Hey! I opened this thread because I thought I smelled somebody to make fun of. A lot of people confuse biathlons and duathlons, but not you! An MTB biathlon makes sense for places without snow. Unfortunately, I think the only way that americans mix guns and bikes is by shooting at cyclists (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=145622). Some people have tried other ways (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=142459) too.
