trying to get an idea....

how does everyone feel about some regional forums?
something like...
--Southeast
--Northeast
--MidAtlantic
--etc.

this might make it a little easier to see what's going on in your neighborhood; races, rides, LBS.

and i'm sure joe will see this to really determine to setup it or not. :)

thanks,
-jason

I think the regional stuff for rides, events would be ok,
but we already have that type of forum.
I personally like the international flavour here,
get lots of opinions and ideas from a worldwide
community. So on that note I'd have to say I wouldn't use it.

I'd read a regional forum but I do not see any benifits to what we have now. If you need to find some one in your area just post a thread asking if there is any local riders. I frequint another fourm that is compleatly local but there are still posts from the East cost. I also like the fact that the way the system is right now you get a quicker response sine there are readers from all over on at any given time.

i am a member of a simliar forum for duck hunting at www.duckcentral.com The regional forums are great if you have enough people... just my 2 cents!

I would hate to see it breaking down by region --- people would then be tempted to only 'hang' in their regions.

I get flipped out everyday seeing posts from all over the world here, it warms my heart.

Would hate to see that global community lost to regional borders, dont we have enough of that crap in real life ?

I don't see why a little organizing is 'crap'. But on the other hand, there's just no too many people here to need this kind of organizing.

I think that the forum is great the way it is. I love the way that you can get so many different views from so many different places.

I read just about everything contained in the Bike Forum. I am always interested in what is going on in other parts of the country and world. Some people need the compartmentalization, so if it needs to happen, I can just read them all in a more organized manner.

We already have the bid rides forum, and having regional would cause segregation IMO. Besides, there aren't enough users from any one place to make regional forums practical. I know of a few cycling websites that have regional forums, and those forums get so little use it seems like a waste of time to me.

'Crap' was more a naive reference to border wars, us vs them, we are special because we are from <insert here>, etc.

Sorry - did not mean to be as disrespectful as I sounded.

Just not really sure I see the need, IMHO, thats all.

well, although not a bad idea, i think what we have works pretty well... for general cycling stuff there is little reason to break up by region. and for specific trails or local issues, what granularity should we divide by? by state, by town? if we just had East Coast, West Coast, South, Europe, Asia, Australia --- they'd still be too general - i.e. East Coast would include Maine and Georgia... even breaking up to Northeast and Mid-Atlantic or whatever... and then we'd have to have tons and tons of sub-groups for every small region...

maybe we should start some more threads on local issues -- either trails or riding groups or races or whatever...
