So anyway, last night I had my back wheel off tightening the cog and cleaning some things up. I realized that I was running late for league play bowling (yes, it is cool) so I threw the back wheel on.

It would seem that I did not tighten the nuts enough because about a half mile from home this evening (and by home I mean the bar that I intended to go to and drink hams) I pulled the wheel out of alignment. I was innocently trackstanding at a light (feeling very proud of myself because I am horrible at it) and was a bit over enthusiastic about getting going again. I pulled up hard on the pedals and noticed that all of the sudden the wheel had wedged against the frame and would no longer turn. So, I pull over to the sidewalk realize what had happened and reach into my bag where the wrench typically resides. Unfortunately, I seemed to have also left that sitting on the counter in my kitchen....good times.

The odd thing was that I had some kind of premonition of something bad happening today and made a point of putting a spare tube and pump in my bag that had been conspicuously absent for about a month. A lot of good that would have done me without my 15mm wrench.

one day over the summer, i rode my beater to work from a friend's house. when i was leaving work, some coworkers in the parking lot played the "how do you stop that thing" card, and i showed them a skid, which proceeded to pull the wheel, wedge it against the frame, and sent me into the asphalt.

smoothe, baby, smoothe.

I did this yesterday while skidding. Pulled a nice long skida and when I went to resume pedalling, I felt a lot of resistance and thought I had F'd up my suicide hub. First thing that came to mind was "Yes, I can finally justify getting a new rear wheel!" Turns out I didn't crank hard enough on the nuts and pulled my tire out of alignment. Boo!

That's some way to impress your acquaintances:)

The other day I was in a shop and saw someone's bike had a wrench (holes drilled in it) mounted to the water bottle bosses. That bike had a shmancy campy wrench but I'm sure any wrench would do.
I hadn't seen that before. Course, he'd need an allen key to get the wrench off.

The key here is to remember that not only did I incompetently return the rear wheel to the bike, but I left the tools that I always carry with me laying out. Consequently, I did have my allen keys, but my bike has not water bottle mounts.
