Has anyone on this forum ridden Tioga Pass?
I am planning to ride from west to east and end in Lee Vining. I am getting started late in the season, so I hope to be across before the pass shuts down due to snow. My target date is October 16, 17 or 18.
I've checked out Chain Reaction's site, very nice and got me more excited. However, they A) go to the pass and then return, B) seem to be a bit more hardcore than I.
This is a pleasure trip on a road bike (non-touring).
The weekend following, I will be in Vegas for a century, so I've started to step up my riding hoping that I will peak about mid-October.
Work is killing me, cycling revives me. Thank goodness the family tolerates the insanity.

I believe that Jobst Brandt, who sometimes hangs out at rec.bicycles.misc, does this ride- and it should be available on Google.com. Yes, there is info there - search on "Jobst Brandt Tioga Pass", and you will get about 75 entries.

As a kid, about 55 years ago, I lived summers in Yosemite and my family would go west to east over Tioga Pass in our cars, and down the grade into Lee Vining. My recollection is that it was a rather major trip.

You said you have checked out Mike's web site at Chain Reaction - you might post on rec.bicycles.misc for more feedback, if you haven't already.
