Here's the thread you've all been waiting for. With your imagination and some real world physics. What would you build into a bike, bmx or otherwise if you could.
Since I get busted on for the supension thing, I wont get into that. Another guy got harped on for wanting disk brakes ona BMX bike. Even though it's unessesary, I think it has a cool factor.
So here's my dream bike. A light 22" BMX bike with 2 inch travel stiff suspension with disc brakes, and rear hub with 5 speed internal gears, shaft drive. Carbon fiber frame, bar seat post etc. 1.5in tires. Oh, an cool stickers too, so the kids don't think it sucks.
Here's the shaft drive.

Knight titanium bolts on anything and everything, Mosh seat, Odyssey Jim C pedals(sealed), double buted spokes on grind side front and rear and TI spokes non drive, Odyssey prototype titanium gyro, Redneck XLT stem in blue, ummmm...and I can't think of anything else.

He's a thinker! Add that helium to my Odyssey frame, and note that every part on my list is 41 thermal, and/or 9 butted. :D

When I win the lottery i'm gonna give em' a couple million to make me a frame. C'mon you're spose to be using your "imagination"!

haha, nice.
I'll have a titanium frame built one day, just because. It will take a lot of design work to get the frame strong in all the right places. I'll get cranks and bars to match. For color, I'll get some custom hubs made. 14mm hollow axles, Alpine 3 spokes. It's hard to dream, when all it takes is some imagination and cash.

why do you want an odyssey frame? they have no experience with frames. Is it the 41 thermal strong/light thing that appeals to you? if so, just buy a light frame , because you will have lotto cash to replace it

YOu gotta represent ODYSSEY!!! Just kidding. Yeah, i'd probably get the LAF, and just give a million to every good bike company just because they've brought me so much joy in life...*wipes away tears*
Then i'd give atleast another million to Steve Crandall(+pluss the million to FBM)just to see what he would do with it, he'd probably buy the worlds biggest beer can or something crazy like that.

I believe that he meant that ti spokes don't have the tensile strength of steel spokes; while they may be lighter, steel spokes are still much stronger, at least for the higher-end ones, such as Marwi or DT Swiss.

That makes slightly more sense. I don't know about Ti's tensile strength (particularly with application to spokes), since Ti spokes are well beyond the 'point of diminishing return' and I don't mess with 'em or care that they exist. As far as stress/strain curves and fatigue life, Ti is *way* above steel, though. In terms of strength to weight ratio, I think Ti probably beats out steel even in tensile strength, so the failure is simply in making Ti spokes that aren't *too* light to be both stronger and still lighter than steel.

I take the enlightened words of Tight Setup Tom Williams and G-Sport George French as the words of Krishna and Shiva alike, so what they say is bond. And their bond states, explicitly, that quality steel spokes are less likely to snap like string cheese than titanium spokes, which will cost you an arm and a leg for not all that much weight savings in the first place.
Tight Setup will rawdog your ladies, gents.
Titanium spokes are perhaps the single most impractical choice anyone could make. You can't use aluminum nipples with them, so you end up with brass nipples. Hardly worth the expense at that point. Might as well stick with DB stainless spokes with aluminum nipples, and for weight savings, use carbon fibre headset spacers.
Please explain.
i think beerman already did

I'd just as soon take the fact that even deep-pocketed gram-grubbing neurotic roadies prefer stainless to Ti spokes as a sign SOMETHING'S not right with them. :D
