I have a dilemma. I can get a new Blur Classic frame for $1000. A Blur XC frame will cost $1600. I enjoy XC riding and single track of all flavors - I do not race. I ride mainly in Michigan - lots of technical single track.

I am going to build the bike with high end components. Is the weight difference and geometry difference worth the extra $600?

I expect the bike to end up costing around $3500, so should I blow the extra bucks to go with the XC frame or will I not really notice the difference?

Is the XC frame really 3/4 lb lighter? WHat would you do?

Thanks.

buy the classic, the 600 dollars you save will buy you a killer fork. Or help towards the nicer components.

If it were me I would buy the blur xc. If I went with the regular blur I would always doubt my purchase which would cause me to end up buying the blur xc later on anyway. Plus I hate to buy a bike that is no longer being produced (unless it's a classic).

If you would like to talk to some blur owners go here. (http://forums.mtbr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8) You should be able to get some good information from that link.

If you are not racing, go with the classic. The XC was made more specific to racing, and won't handle much. If you are an average joe rider, you most likely will go out and enjoy yourself, and will appreciate the little bit more strength the classic has over the XC.

btw, is the $1000 classic frame new? I just paid $1600 for a new one less than 2 months ago!

Yeah, I'm kind of going through the same thing now -- however I don't really have a line on a good deal like that. $600 is a lot of dough. I guess the XC is about a 1/2+ lb lighter on the frame, but also not as strong. I weigh 170, so I wouldn't worry myself; however if I weighted another 15 lbs or so, I'd probably steer clear of the xc. Anyhow -- pros and cons of each. Think the Classic is a little better technical trail bike, from what I can tell. Does one frame fit you better than the others? For me, I'm 6' but a very short torso, so the classic would fit better.

Anyone (including nacraman) have a line on a good deal for a blur classic they'd be willing to share? Most likely, size M. Please respond or e-mail me at averyall at yahoo dot com

Cheers!
