Cyclocross - fork suggestions

Hello!

I'm in the process of building a cyclocross bike from scratch. The frame is made of steel tubing and I had plans on using a steel fork, but the builder continues to reccomend a carbon fiber; Alpha Q or Reynolds. As you probably know, that mikes the price jump quickly. Plus I'm thinking that it's possible that a CF fork could fold up with a hard impact.
What is everyone using for a fork? Steel? Carbon fiber?

My Raleigh Team CX has a carbon fork. It really does improve the ride tremendously. If you slam into something you certainly CAN break the fork, but that occurs at loads way above what a steel fork would require to bend back and dent your downtube.

I don't think that you ought to worry about weight on the fork and the nashbar fork is on sale right now.

I use Sintema Full Carbon forks, am now in my 3rd season of racing them, and I bought my cross bikes after they had been used for a few seasons by one of the top riders in the UK

i have CF forks on my felts, and everything is cool so far. no problems, love the ride, and it takes abuse (i race them).

I like my Kinesis crosslight fork. Light and solid. No complaints.

I've got two AlphaQ CX. Great fork. Wanna go cheaper? Skip the cheaper CF alternatives and go for a Kinesis crosslight fork. Much better off there. Probably the second best alternative to the AlphaQ. Might in fact be stiffer.
