Hi all!
After a couple of years talking about it, a used tandem showed up in my garage last week. I plan on riding with my 10 year old (wife doesn't want much to do with the bikes). It's a KHS Sport and should fit the bill nicely. Depending on spring training, I told him I'd take him on RAGBRAI with me this year, the "G" rated one! All I need is to find a set of crank shorteners and I think it should fit him just fine.

Thanks, Mark

ps been lurking for quite sometime now and have gained serveral ideas from these forums, thanks again!

Go to www.burley.com for the crank shortners.

. . . or Mel @ tandemseast.com lists crank shorteners (not kidback) for about $80.

That looks like the least expensive I've ran across so far.

Thanks for the input! Mark

Bit of a problem riding with siblings. I normally find they are fitter, stronger, have more stamina and enthusiasm than I have. As none of them will ride the Tandem, I normally have to fettle the brakes a bit so they rub. This means that I can keep up with them. Just watch out for the 10 year old overtaking you on the Tandem.

When we rode the trail-a-long bike, I always told him he couldn't pass me or I'd have to ground him. Same rule for the tandem!

I love to tandem with the kid. Great bonding. Get a few good photos of you and the 10 year old on the tandem. Keep it forever. I love looking at my old photos of my me and my 6 month old (now 12 yrs) siiting on the back of my bike with a big grin on his face.
