Nasty, but effective (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4373440.stm)

I know, not directly related to bike riding, but of interest to this crowd, no doubt.

Better to use everything than throw it away.

Personally I like bioethanol better. CART race cars run on it and it doesn't require you to slaughter a bunch of cows.
Plus you can burn it all you want recklessly, whatever carbon you release into the atmosphere came from the atmosphere anyway.

Looks like it is only the less useful parts of the cattle (which are being slaughtered anyway for meat) that are used that way. I thought it was going to be based on cow manure... A friend of mine from India says the government there distributes (or sells really cheap, I don't remember which) small methane generators for rural households to put manure in and get methane for household use (instead of propane or natural gas).

Much more gas from pig manure.

I like biodiesel just cuz of the idea of going into a McDonald's or any resto w/ a fryolator and taking their used grease off their hands to put in a diesel engine. Free fuel and some french fries to go.

If I remember right, humans, produce methane, even after death due to the bacteria in our guts. Like Dchiefransom, said, better to use everything than throw it away...New for 2006, the Soylent Green powered Escalade! 10 mph* city/12 mph* highway!

*mph = miles per human

I think most decomposition produces methane... or can produce it, depending on the bacteria doing the decomposing.
