I did a search and learned alot but I didn't find everything i was looking for.

I'm buying a new bike and am not sure if i want/need disks.

I don't plan on riding in the rain/mud but seeing as i live in seattle, it will happen.

on the bikes i have ridden w/ disks the brakes seemed to work WAY to good.

I cannot ride my bike if I can't do manuals. I can't do manuals with brakes that are on/off brakes. I have to be able to feather them.

so I thought I would go with just avid mech. on the front and a vee brake on the back.

I'm not worried about flipping over the bars.

I just wanted to get your thoughts on this setup.

Vee brakes work SO MUCH BETTER than anybrake i've ridden (i have 15 years under my belt) that disks seem like overkill.

except in the rain.....

If i left something out, just ask.

Thanks!

If you are not going to be doing serious dh you should not need dics. The set up you are talking about should work for you. My personal pref. is disc. Hope and Grimeca have the best modulation so they are easier to feather then the others. You can also set up the mech disc in back so it will not grab as hard by adjusting the cable. But as I said before, v's will work fine and also save you the exspence of having to get new hubs.

well, i'm buying a new bike and the hubs i'm getting are Shimano - Deore Disks.

so that's not a problem.

I was going to get these http://unrealcycles.com/items/avid-mechdisc.htm because i'm getting everything else from there.

those are the only ones he sells i guess....

again, i'm not doing serious downhilling (yet, maybe never) but i'm sure i'll be riding in rain/mud sometimes.

thanks again!
