BMX - Please recommend a bike

I am really interested in getting into dirt jumping. I want to buy a bike that is suitable for this style of riding, but wont break the budget. Thanks.

Eastern Shovelhead. I don't do that much dirtriding on it, but of what i have done, its held up good. I would go with a Eastern Shovelhead, or a DK General Lee. The General Lee is cheaper. Go to easternbikes.com.

I just got a Backtrail X3. Stock, they seem to be a pretty stout bike, built for abuse.

expatriate....i have a question to....do you noe any bikes that go both dirt and street....cause theres a little park with a few dirt jumps and a table top that i go to with my friends

didn't you just ask us what bike to get?

Living in Australia, I'm not exposed to all the brands available in the states. And we only have GT and Haro at my LBS. I got the Backtrail because it seems suited to dirt and street, but I'm sure there's better options in the US.

Hey sorry mate, I was going to post a price range but I thought since most of you guys are from the US and I'm in OZ it might be a little confusing to do the conversions. Anyhow, since you're from Australia too it won't really matter. I don't really want to spend over $600 Australian.

What brands are available where you live? The Backtrail X3 that I bought was priced at AU$599. I paid less than that though. If you've got a DK dealer nearby, see what's comparable for a full cro-mo bike.

There are two dealerships in town, one deals with Apollo, Avanti, Raleigh, Free Agent BMX, Gary Fisher, Look, Raceline, Redline, Specialized, Sintesi & Trek. I know that the other one deals with GT but I'm not too familiar with them I'd have to check it out.

Not really much to choose from there. Free Agent is about the only BMX company in there worth having a look at. I'll check and see what GT has - I have a catalog around somewhere.

I was looking at a GT 2006 Jamie Bestwick Pro. They're within my price range, any idea whethere they're a good ride?

It looks ok, but the frame isn't all cro-mo, just the main tubes. How much do you weigh, and how much jumping will you be doing?

Lots of jumping, that's the main reason for buying the bike. Around 70kgs.

The Fueller has a stronger frame. What were the prices?

yeah i got a dk 4 pack.....i think its pretty good.....that and my friend steve has glee and he put terrible one bars and shadow grips and a dub wall wheel in the back and its an awesome trail bike now......

Specialized BMX bikes are not common over here. I wouldn't be surprised if the Specialized dealer only carries road and mountain bikes. The reason for this? Because Specialized just isn't anything special.

ewww. i stopped reading after the guy said to get the general lee.
dont. the frames Sh*t and most is hi-tenisl and not 100%chomroly. If you gonna get a DK get the Six pack. its really nice. i know two kids that got them and its really good for a stock bike and DK is a trustable company.

The problem is that the selection is limited in Australia. By May, a lot of models were sold out. There's only a limited amount some bikes sold here each year. Imagine being told in May that the Six Pack was sold out, you'll have to wait for the 2006 models. That's what it's like here. Most shops can't afford to have a lot of bikes in stock, and distributors bring them in by the container load, so it's not like they're going to be able to order 10 or 20 more if they want. It's probably something like 80 or 100 at a time. You guys in the US have it easy.
