So far I've enjoyed this website vicariously, offering comments to my husband when he posts. I just registered today because of a story in the news here today that I just can't get out of my head.

A local mountain biker went out last night, apparently alone, and got injured. He called his wife this morning from his cell phone, but it took half the day before they found him. He was dead from a head injury. They haven't given many details (helmet?)

I don't know who he was, but I feel like I lost a friend. Don't know where I'm going with this, just needed to say it...

How tragic. I hope his wife is strong and is with family and friends now. The question is what happened. I've been on the roads on my bike and have had several close calls - usually idiots thinking it's funny to scare a woman on a bike - but some people are oblivious to cyclists. My heart goes out to that man and his wife - what a heartbreaking story.

That's one reason it's not a good idea to go offroad alone, especially if it's far from where you live. Maybe if you're really experienced and know the trails but even then- sometimes people go in really remote areas where there are no phones, nothing, no cell reception, no one around for miles. And for god's sake, wear a helmet! That's really a shame.

I give a moment of silence to the family and the man. That's really sad.

Always a sad moment when you hear of such an event. Makes me think about all I have and I'm grateful to have it. Also makes me reflect about how many times I've done stupid things and lived to tell. My sympathies go out to his family.
