Road Cycling - My first 50

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Nine weeks ago I couldn't walk from the hospital bed I was in to the bathroom to pee without help, even then due to the nature of my injuries I couldn't even hold myself or the nightgown aside to do it. Today though I rode my new road bike 51.6 miles - avg speed 17.4, total time 2:56. My hands hurt like hell (smashed them up pretty good them in the accident that put me down) and I am pretty wiped, but It still feels good.
I'm may not be Lance, and its not a huge deal, but I felt like sharing it with some folks who know what the first time you do 50 miles feels like. :)

Congrats. Way to go. It is NOT the distance but the accomplishment.
Fifty Miles is impressive at the best of times, but from the sounds of it you've had a bad time lately, so even more respect than usual.
I take my hat off to you Ed.
Respect.

This is great news, edk. Congratulations.
Just curious ... was the "accident" a bicycling accident? If so, even more power to you !!

Congrats Ed! I was off my bike for 8 months after chest surgery, my first ride back was only 2 miles, and it took me close to 30 minutes, it was great accomplishment for me, as was being able to pee all by myself! Keep up the great progress & welcome to the world of road cycling.
Andy, Ed posted about the accident in another thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14602

Excellent job! Considering what you've gone through I'd say this 50 was a little more special than most, especially given the recuperation you've gone through. Keep up the good work! :)
