Foo - What do you think about your job?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I didn't see my choice - I work so I can make money to play.

I'm retired. :D
When I was working, though, I loved my job. Every day presented different challenges so I was never bored, and I spent about 25% of my time traveling all over the world.
I could never be so lucky again.
I'm in marketing (in bike advocacy) and am working at the job because I really like it. I like the creative angle of creating brochures, designing a campaign and executing a plan of action. Not to mention, selling the idea.
I'm self employed and have an azzhole for a boss.

I work since I need the money.....to fund my endeavors towards self-employment!
The job would be great, if the managers would pull even half their weight around here. Pretty much I have been hijacking what tasks I can that these fools slack on....it's annoying to say the least.

I love my work and got into it because of my love for the field....but lately it's felt more like work and a lot less love. I think its half because of the bad turn the industry has taken (hopefully temporary) and half because my employer's culture/atmosphere has really been going down the crapper (especially after recent chain of many layoffs).

I have a great job. I work at the LBS. The pay isn't great, but the discount is nice. After all my schoolin's done I'll hopefully be an architect. That job should be pretty good too.

I have been with my company for 19 years, mainly just to put food on the table. This was only supposed to be a temporary job. Right when I was thinking "is this all there is to life?" and feeling pretty much like a wasted mass of flesh, I was moved to a different department. Well, I know I've found my career. This is it. It doesn't pay a whole lot but the rewards of accomplishment are very sweet.

Well, technically I work because I need the money, but I like what I do. I'm a test engineer for Hyster. In a nutshell, that means I get paid to break forklifts. :D

I like my job, but I don't let it define me.
It's just a kind of a day care for grown-ups to keep me out of trouble until 5pm.
I work because I like what I do, and find it rewarding. I don't like the company I work for though, so I need to find a new one. Somehow I ended up being good at it, and the pay is OK, so I guess that it's what I'm going to do this time around.

Well, I love my job. Granted, I don't get a salary or a wage. I work for a non-profit (NGO for Europeans) and no one gets a salary, including executives like me. Everyone's income is based upon individual and group donor support given in the interest of them. I love the work. I run the Linguistics department of our international projects division. I'm also the Assistant Director of the division. It's my job to see to it that our workers in the 2/3 world are properly trained and consulted in the area of language learning, cultural anthropology, language preservation, literacy, orthography, translation methodology, ethnomusicology, etc. I love it. Not only do I get to travel the globe (as funds are available), my work is having a lasting impact in preserving cultures and bettering the lives of people around the world. I may not get rich, my my life is going to count for something!
Nobody becomes a grad student for the pay. If you just consider it work, I could do better at McDonald's. If you consider that I'm getting paid (just a little) to go to school and I'll have some nice job options afterwards, it's a great place to be.

I hate my boss... a slave-driver... makes his employee work 20-hours a day without overtime... wish I could kill him... but that'd be suicide...

Walked out of a job on principle for a variety of reasons, with little cash on hand.
Still in the doldrums of unemployment 3 months later.

I earn ZERO per week, indeed, ZERO for most of the year. I am a student. I therefore fund my cycling needs by working in the holidays.
I work at uni for no pay so that I will have a job, which I will then use as a means to fund playing, much like the guys above!

I'm a recent graduate looking for work.
I want a job doing some actual good in the world, but I'm willing to settle for "day care for grown-ups" that gives me enough money to do some good on my own time.
And to play, of course. :D

I love my career, but I dislike the place I work at. Its turning into one of those things that makes me wonder why I even bother living. Contemplating leaving and going back to working for myself. Had alot more fun that way.

I understand that well.
When I was a grad student, my major prof. wanted me to work for him as an R.A. (Research Assistant). It was so hard to explain to him that although my current full-time job was not great, it was a LOT more money than I would make as an R.A. and just couldn't afford to.

No joke. I did a three year unpaid internship in grad school. There's a thin line to walk between making time to make money to eat and making time for education. Grad school is haze. LOL
