Classic & Vintage - The "Vintage Parts Wanted" thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I figured we could use this, as we seem to be a much smaller subset of the Wanted, For Sale, and Swap crowd.
Of course, I have ulterior motives - I need some parts! :D
Right now, I'm looking for a MTB 7 speed twist grip set. Any body have one they want to sell or trade for?

Sorry I can't help you, but the thread's a great idea.
I need an upper body bush for a Campy C-Record rear mech. Also could use cones for BH Racelite rear hub, circa 1959.

I've got a Sram mrx 7 speed gripshift set new in the box. I also have a very rare EGS Syncro Shift. It's a French gripshifter that shifts both the front and rear derailers with a single shifter. It keeps you from crosschaining. It's new in the box. I wrote Sheldon Brown about it and even he was stumped. He told me I should hang on to it as a collectable, but I'm not a collector of parts. The company died years ago, but the web site is still there:

My latest project is a Trek 930 single speed, so I need MTB stuff.
Both of the shifters are Shimano compatible, by the way.

Dirtdrop,
How much for the set? I'm bulding up a Bianchi "Peregrine" mtb frame for my brother to take with him when he moves to New Mexico. It has an 8 speed "Twist Grip" shifter and Shimano Deore LX RD, but I only have wheels with 7 speed cassettes. I realize I could use the 8 speed shifter "as-is" and just not use 8, but I'd like it to be "right". So if you or anyone wants to part with one, drop me a PM - unless someone has an 8 speed cassette that might work?
What mtb parts do you need? I have a few odds and ends laying about.
Ok, I like this idea and I'm going to stick a vintage wanted thread.
However, to keep this from being moved to either
trash or the marketplace I'm going to place a few restrictions on it
which I will post in the thread.

Lotek-- makes sense, though I'll discuss this here... what if we're looking for something and have a list of parts we're willing to trade, for example:
"Looking for fifties vintage Rene Herse.
Have 2 Murray beach cruisers with flat tires for trade"
Okay, bad example, but could we list trader parts in the new stikied thread? Didn't want to clutter the other thread with discussion. Would rather leave it straight looking for (though if someone has a Herse, I'm sure I can dig up some Murrays fast. I'll even flatten the tires myself).

Lotek,
Thanks for spucing up my idea (or maybe putting up with? :D ). Question - I looked over the "sticky" and the rules make sense. But what is the vehicle for deleting a "wanted" once the deal is made? I'm just wondering how the thread will be kept neat and tidy.......
I will clean up the thread, send me a PM or post in the thread and I will
clean up the stuck thread.

Great idea for wanted parts.
I'm trying to build-up a 1983 Holdsworth. I need Rims and Hubs. The specification sheet states:
Hubs - Campagnolo small flange, quick release, 36 holes.
Rims - Super Champion Mod 58 27" H.P.
Is there anything like that out there? I do have a couple of options going, a set of 700c wheels and a pair of 27" rims but the real thing would be faster and easier.
Thanks.
Skip - Post your WTB in the sticky at the top of the thread directory...

Sounds like a good idea to me - I have **boxes and boxes** of vintage parts I'd love to unload (and WOULD it make my wife happy!).

Maybe we need a *For Sale to a good home* thread too! ;)
Or it would be for me - the - *Take my paycheck - I want parts!* thread.
As much as I would like to stick a for sale thread we
have a requirement that sales go into the marketplace,
and to post there one needs to be an upgraded member (donating).
The WTB is fine for now, especially if we keep it PMs and E-mail
after the intial post, but I can't get a FS thread here, and it's
not just a Mods decision. I believe there is some legal consideration
to this, so it is a non issue.

Hi, I'm looking for an SR or Nitto road stem for my Schwinn. I'm looking for a 90 or 100mm with a longer insertion ability. Can anybody help? Thanks.
how much longer? I have an SR (I think) that's about 12" tall.
