Just a quick note from Paradise to say Hi. I am new to the road cycling game, but also want to get into MTB. Former BMX'er who growed up.....just checking out the site and trying to learn as much as possible. Recently purchased a Scattante R550, and love it so far. Mahalo!!!!

Lived in Haleiwa for a number of years (10) myself. Hung loose. Pipeline was a trip. Everyday would drive home from Honolulu thru the pineapple fields, park under the house, up the stairs, grab the spear and fins, down the front, on the grass, over the sand, into the water. Loved it. Where bouts are you located Bra?

Sounds good about the Tour....think I can get some donations by then. I'll call this week and get the info. Aloha and S/F to you Excalibur, hopefully we'll see each other on the road. BTW, since you guys are local how/where do I find info about routes. I know pretty much any road is open except for the obvious highways and very heavily traveled roads but I got an email notice that Tradewinds was doing a ride over the Pali...or am I just looney?

Oahu is pretty much open ground. I live in Makiki, so there are three choices: 1) head through Waikiki, Kahala, Hawaii Kai, etc., 2) head toward Nimitz Hwy, Pearl City, Waipahu, etc. and 3) Head up the Pali Hwy, go through the tunnels and return to Honolulu via Waimanalo, Sandy Beach, Hawaii Kai, etc. I used to race years back but now I like to ride for fun and have cut back on mileage. Since you live in Kaneohe, decide how far you want to ride. Start mapping out courses that might be fun and challenging. It's one way to get to know the island. A hui hou.

Mikky, welcome...are you doing the Tour de Cure? I think it's a nationwide event so may want to go to the website and see if there is one available in your area. I registered 12 hours ago and have already almost reached the mandatory $65 donations....and am heading towards my small goal of $200. Looks like a fun event.
