Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I was at work today and I was talking to a group of people who came in today who mentioned the fact that their bikes costed more than their car. I was wondering what the situation is for all of you?

My bikes cost more then my car, but my car sucks alot more money out of me each month then my bikes.

My Jeep costs more than each of my bikes but I'm pretty sure at some point, the amount of biking equipment I will have acquired will outcost the Jeep. Operating cost of the Jeep will most likely always remain higher than the bikes.

Hehe, I'm waiting for people to start saying "which bike?" :)

at the moment my bikes are not worth more than my truck but I am in the process of buying 2 new bikes a new road bike, and my first ever mountain bike then they will definitely be worth more than the trucks. I think if I add up all the gear I have it would be a close call. The truck definitely sucks a lot of money out of my wallet that could be used for better things, like my bikes!

The very first repair on my leather-seated car cost $800. This was about six months ago. The last repair on the same car cost over $2,000.

I like my bike.

I voted that my car cost more but really it's a family car. I drive it on the weekend when the whole family is heading out but it's my wife's car most of the week.

A lot of people find it hard to comprehend the fact that we only have one car for two drivers.

My car cost me £500 to buy, my newest bike cost me £535. That's just the initial outlay, of course. My car has cost me a lot more in petrol, insurance, repairs, MOT, tax, etc... :(

Well, i currently have no car, so the answer is obvious.

when i was in the US, none of my bikes ALONE costed more than my car, but my 3 or 4 bikes together, were worth more than my car.

I am considering possibly buying an old beater car for those times when an auto is usefull... still just a possibility, but IF i do it will be in the <$1500 range so at least 2 of my bikes will be worth more (or about at that level if you go by resale value... my road bike is a few years old now)

MechBgon,
I didn't think of that when I voted. The value of ALL the bikes
exceeds the cost of my car. If they exceed the wifes
vehicle I'm in serious trouble (like I'm not already).
That said, My bikes are worth much more to me
than either of the cars.

One more for the club.

No car = no cost.

I have laid out a couple hundred Euro this year for bike stuff. That includes buying a junker for commuting.

Cheers,
Jamie

I lived for 20 years buying cars for less than $1,000 ea.

Once married, I found out the wife didn't like my classics.

My bike WAS always worth more.

For now by truck costs more, but after I purchase my next bike, the rolls will be reversed.

My bike cost more than my car.....

And my bike was only $389.

What does that tell you about my car? :D

Interesting topic... I could buy 10 of my bikes for what my 4W SUV costs. I am not sure that's a good thing to share considering

The car costs more now. My bike is 'only' $380, but the car I had up until two weeks ago probably wasn't worth that. Two leaking fuel injectors ($90 each) and a cracked head gasket ($1000?). Now at least my monthly car payment, repair money (0), and gas money (about $20 a month!) will be less than the cost of my bike :D

My monthly car payment on my newest car is more than 1.5 times what my bike cost when new. I need to sell a car and buy a bike but I've got some body work to do first. Too many projects and not enough time.

Definitely the Car cost more, but then my road bike is only a 2nd hand Raleigh Pursuit which I bought for £90. Does the job very nicely though :)

Back through high school, college and early adulthood, I only had a bicycle, that I bought for $300. When I relented and bought my first car, it was $400, and life as I knew it had changed. I wish I had stuck with a bike!

Proving the saying "money can't buy happiness", my car costs more than my bikes but I love my bikes!
