Bicycle Mechanics - LHT Bottom Bracket Chasing

I have searched the forum and found nada. For the Surly long haul trucker builders---Has anyone had to chase the bottom bracket theads to clean them up? I ask this as the surly site suggests doing it. Has anyone had to face the bb either? Im getting ready to order a LHT frame and build it up this winter (cold dark Indiana) Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It's no big deal to clean up the threads IF NEEDED with a wire brush.I've never faced a BB shell and had no issues. YMMV.If you worry alot and it looks like it wasn't doen by Surly, take it to LBS.

chasing the threads is a good idea, it helps to make replacing a BB much easier if ever needed. otherwise the threads can be off a little, or have paint or other gunk in them. which will make it harder for the threads to mesh well, causing it to be harder and more frustrating. if you're using a cartridge BB facing isn't really nessecary.

Yes--I plan on using a phil wood bb, so Ill just have the threads chased to be sure.
Having never seen a LHT frame I wasnt sure if it needed clean-up. Thanks for the response!

Its good to chase and face the BB. Facing gets both ends of the BB perfectly parrallel so the bearings can be adjusted as smooth as possible. Clean and lubricated threads make it much easier to get the right torque and make taking apart much easier.

The only frame I've encountered that didn't need a BB face and chase was the Pedal Force CF frame. Every other one needed it. It should be automatic before you start a build. Same holds true for facing the head tube.
