Just got some Salmon Kool-Stops for the winter. They have this scimitar-like curve on the surface, causing the back of the pad to strike the rim *way* before the front. I think this is the "squeegee" feature, designed to wipe dirt and water away from the rim. But it also seems to run counter to what I know about toe-ing brake pads, where the front of the pad is supposed to strike first. What's the deal?

it also acts as a toeing feature, as it isn't a large area and is flexible to not cause squeal.

Yes. If you set up the pads so that the will sit flat over the rim wall, they will make this loud annoying noise.

Set up the koolstops so that the tip of the little squeegee touches the rim at the same time the front tip touches. The squeegee feature, when used this way, automatically toes in the pad for you.
