i have tried to mount but most of the time my rear peg won't get on and i land on my pedal
i don't wanna be a ***** and build a ramp up to a picnic table

bunnyhop, get your front tire on the ledge, and your back will catch

you have to point your toes down a bit and lift up the back tire, but as stated it will follow you to the rail. You need to find a grind box to get comfortable doing this. Rails suck to learn on.

i know how to bunny hop but it's just mounting and grinding

Putting your pedal down shouldnt knock you off, it should just slow you down. You said your back peg wasnt getting on.. If it's not you may be able to do a little hop, but you arent bunny hopping corectly. Theres no way to say what to do this or that.. just jump onto what you're trying to grind over and over until you get it.
