I signed on to this group last March. At the time, I was 40 lbs overweight and hadn't done any significant riding for six years. Well, I bought a new bike (Trek 2200) and started riding. I lost the 40 lbs, and today I completed a century, my first in six years. I rode the 101 miles in 6-1/2 hours, for an average of about 15.5 mph. Not too bad for a guy who will turn 49 in a couple of weeks. It was a lot of work, but well worth it.

Thanks for all the support. I have grown to like my new body (and so does my wife!) and intend to keep it. I am going to keep riding and do it again next year. There is nothing like a great day on a bike.

Congratulations.

I hope you don't have to sell the bike to buy new clothes. ;)

'Misson accomplished' sounds like you have done with it. Like you may resume again to be a couch potato with a good conscience.

Does not mission just begin?

Allow me to rephrase. To blatantly steal a line from a well know sci fi show, my continuing mission will be to ride my bike as long as it is physically possible. I have no desire to go through another weight gain-loss cycle. The new me is here to stay!

Congratulations. I'm 51 and plan on doing my first century during 2003. Glad to see another "middle aged" guy do it!
