Hmmm... Coming back on a 25 mile ride the other day and *CRACK!!!* with a noise like a rifle shot my IRC Metro 1.5 rear tyre goes flat instantly. I got off and looked and the tyre has blown clean off the rim in two places and the inner tube was shredded . Not much good having a puncture repair kit...

Managed to phone a friend and get picked up. Got home and tried to take the damn tyre off breaking a Parktools tyre lever in the process - it will NOT come off. Get my Parktools cable cutters out and cut straight through the tyre and put it in the bin (immensely satisfying). Repeat with front tyre.

Drive back to shop (with front wheel - X517 on Hope mono hub) and ask if I CAN check some different slicks to check fit tightness. A set of Specialized Fatboys can be fitted by hand, just. I am very sceptical at running 1.25" tyres being an MTBer at heart but buy a set and get home and fit them.

Put 60psi in and WOW!!!, I LOVE THESE TYRES, the ride is just so creamy smooth and, even weirder, they seem to absorb bumps and stuff far better than the IRCs which must have had three times the air volume... My training regime (very loose, 100 miles a week when I can be bothered dragging my butt out of the house ;)) has just become a much more pleasing prospect.
