Too bad; they're handing someone else a small but steady market niche. I've ridden Top Tourings until cord was visible without flatting them, they're a truly superior piece of goods.

Good thing I bought three of them a while back (on sale for $15 each!). I still haven't tried them - waiting for my armadillos to wear out...

Good thing I got one new pair here and have another set coming from Nashbar, so I have a few seasons before I have to freak out and find a new tire. I hear the Contact is pretty good.

Uh-oh. Stock up, any ideas on replacements?

I rely heavily on this make of tire. It has never failed.

This means that those of us with vintage 27" non-hooked rims have just lost one of our best tire options. Pity!

John, I've come to think really highly of Schwalbe Marathons, and they are also available in a 27 x 1 1/4". A very good tire that's quite similar to the Top Touring.

Thanks for the tip, Feldman. What is the recommended pressure? Remember, I need a tyre which can function very well at a mere 70 or 80 PSI, without the sidewall breaking down, to avoid blowing over the outer flanges of the period-correct non-hook rims I want to put on the Capo.

The recommended pressure is 80 PSI on the 26 x 1.5"-ers, I don't know what the roadier sizes would be. It looks like a tire that should work well in the 60 to 80 PSI range, though.

I'm liking the Schwalbe Marathon Slicks I mounted about a week ago. The 700x30 is rated for 55-95PSI, and I am currently running 70 in the front and 95 in the rear. I may lower the rear pressure a little as it's pretty hard.
