Just rejoined from a 3 week vacation as I gained 5lbs and am up to 202 now. Not concerned about weight so much as performance and muscle mass. Spent a few years at 6'2" and 150lbs being unactive in high school and was called "bones". Filled out finally and very active.

19, 6'3 and 202lbs.

Hi, I'm fairly new to the forums and thought I'd introduce myself here. I'm 5'10" and got up to almost 260 around the end of the year. Started eating less and paying attention to other health issues. Since January, I'm down to 235 without excercise, and just quit smoking. I've replaced the cost of about a year's worth of cigarettes with a decent hybrid bike (Rocky Mountain Metro 30--and it's a dream to ride, really). I have to admit, riding in to work is way more fun than catching a smoke.

Your not the only one, heck I would like to have that much spare space, an extra training bike, and a few freeweights and maybe a bowflex, and I likely wouldn't be a clyde. Problem around here, is that I don't have the space.

Err

May I suggest your local gym or rec center?

Good one Denverfox, I am not using the same amount of space

Fortunately I have a lot of space. But, I did have my stuff in a much smaller space prior to moving to this home 5 years ago.

Here is me and my ride. Was down below 190 for awhile there until I took a month off to nurse my back and the weight shot above 200 again and hasn't come back down yet.

Hey guys, I've just started riding again this season. It's difficult to get back on after over three years off the bike. The guys I used to ride with are way past my ability. I'm tryin to get down to 180 from 230, hopefully before I have to face my family back in the states. Living in Italy is great except for the food is too good and the beer is even better. I'm back to eating healthier and drinking red wine everyday. I bought a new RockShox fork for my trek as a little motivation to get on and ride. I also invested in a new bike rack for my wagon (yes, I drive a wagon)... It's cool that you guys/we have support and are in the same boat. I look foreward to reading your mileage gains and your weight losses, I also hope to join you in celebrating your success. I'm a young guy and have no business being so outa shape, I turn 32 in a couple of months. Seems the pain is almost always worth the gain. Talk to you all soon I hope.

Ciao,

-Dale

Cool! I'd also like to extend an invite to Spinner Saturday to you! See the stickey on this forum. I track miles and if you want to, saddle time as well. All you have to do is track the weekly miles and report them either in PM or the thread. I'll be pleased to add you.

What kind of recumbent trikes you two have? My wife is also a 'bent trike rider and rides the Sun EZ3! We're taking off in May to do a 660 mile tour!

Tom congrads on the weight loss. That is so amazing. When I started riding a little while back, I was 235 and I am now down to 212. I am hoping to be down to 200 by the time my wedding comes on July 14th. Cycling is the cure to alot of health problems. Good job Tom!!

Hello, I'm new here too. I'm 6'4" 285lbs, and have been riding a Sports Authority Huffy MTN bike for about 5 yrs. Just this weekend I bought a Raleigh Passage 3.5 with a 23" frame. It is the frst time a bike fit me since grade school. There is a beautiful paved bike path just 2 tenths of a mile from my door. It makes an approximate ten mile round trip, which takes me 35-40 minutes to complete. The course is fairly flat, wooded and open areas, and turns around at a park on the river. Makes a good start for the day.
If I get my weight down to 260-270 that will be fine by me, but I'm already a pretty solid gym rat.

This seems to be a very helpful and freindly forum.
Thanks for having me,

John

Can't believe I somehow missed an opportunity to post pics of my bikes :)

I'm 52yo, 6'3" and currently about 205lbs, down from a high of 215 over the winter. In summer, I'll hopefully trim down to about the mid 190s and I think that's about my lower limit without starving myself. Does 195 still qualify me as a Clyde?

Anyway, my baby is my Roubaix pictured below. Easily the most comfortable bike I've ever owned. The Bianchi is a new purchase from late last year, purchased to supplement the Roubaix and for use in bad or sloppy weather (the springs here in MN are sloppy, wet and full of road salt).

Well i should have posted in here sooner. But my name is Matt, my wife is on here as well. We both are big. Im 6 foot 2 and about 330 down from 365. Ive always been big and strong and put on a bunch of weight in 2006. I was laid up from a bad car accident caused by a woman on a cell. I have recovered and am back riding again. I should get my settlement in june and with that im going to purchase a new bike even though my trek 820 rides flawless. I want a road bike and dammit i will have one..lol. I was really surprised with myself last weeken. On flat ground going into a head wind i hit and maintained 26 mph with mtb gearing for over 3 miles. My ride was longer then that but could not beleive how i can get these old football player legs moving

Oh yeah i turned 37 this past monday.

Just be carefull to incrementally increase your efforts and avoid overdoing it or a possible injury. I am finding that food portion control is the hardest thing to practice. Be carefull not to reward yourself with extra food because, "I just rode my @$$ off for two hours" or "ghee whiz honey, I just burned 1000 calories so I can have a little extra"!

Hello all. I joined a couple months ago, but was waiting until I got a pic of my bike before posting here. '06 Giant OCR 2:
http://pics.gonnatri.com/bike/jbike2_md.jpg (http://pics.gonnatri.com/bike/jbike2_lg.jpg)

My story: In January of '06, I weighed 327 pounds, my heaviest. My wife was ~8 months pregnant with our first child, and I realized that I needed to lose a lot of weight if I wanted to be around for my child(ren), and if I wanted to participate with them in any outdoor activities. That summer I learned about sprint distance triathlons, and decided that that would be a great goal to train towards to help me get back in shape. So I set that goal to complete a sprint triathlon in the spring or summer of '07. I quickly borrowed a friend's bike, and began swimming and running. In October my work started hosting (and paying for if you don't gain) Weight Watchers meetings. I've lost a total of 55 pounds since WW started, and 64.2 pounds total. I'm currently at 262.8 and losing.

In March I purchased the bike above, and this past weekend (4/21/07) I got it out on the road for the first time. It was great - I can't believe how awesome road biking is. Had I known I think I would have started much earlier!

Hey everyone... I'm 49 years old, 5'9" and currently about 265. My belly looks like I swallowed a basketball. I feel like crap all the time and don't get any exercise other than walking to the fridge. I have hypertension and am basically a walking time bomb.

I bought an '04 Specialized Expedition and at first rode nearly every day. I have since moved from New Mexico to Maine (job related) and just this morning pulled the bike out of storage (the snow is gone and the rainy season is here). The movers dismantled the bike to squeeze it onto the moving van so the bike is in a shambles. I plan on getting it to a local shop to get it all up to snuff again in the next week or two. We now live close to Acadia National Park and there are many trails to ride there. I'd like to get back down to the 190 pound range which I haven't seen in about 12 years. Anyway, I'm a short, chunk of a Clydesdale and will stick with the Expedition until some pounds come off and I can ride a few miles without coughing up a lung. Then maybe I'll graduate to a road bike and do more long distance stuff. I just bought the "Heft on Wheels" book on eBay ($6 shipped) so look forward to reading that and hopefully gaining some inspiration.

I can relate to everything you are saying! When I started riding again it was after colon cancer surgery and I could barely do 5 miles without feeling like I would pass out. These days, I can ride 40-50 miles without too much discomfort and while my weight hasn't gone down much, I am in better shape than I was a few years ago. Anything that you can do consistantly and that you enjoy, will be a benefit, if you don't regularly overdo it! Eating about 25% less will help get the fat off. Just don't reward yourself with an extra helping, "because I just rode for an hour", and I'm starving! I know, I did this and got no weight loss at all. You will gain some muscle from the excercise but in order to lose the fat you have to cut back just a few hundred calories each day from what you normally eat. Its a tough thing to maintain but you can do it. I'm in the process my self, one day at a time.

hi everyone, i'm new here.i wanted to send a message to all of you here, 'cause i can't be in this thread 'cause i'm 175 now.
i'm 5'6 and i was 200 last summer. i bought an el-cheapo donwhill mtn bike to ride it on the road... i'm kinda masochist with myself... but wanted something to train hard so this 40+ pounbs beast, with 2" wide tires was the choice. first time i rode it my belly was that big that i almost throw up after the 10km i did 'cause it was squeezed between my legs and myself... i was pretty angry but didn't throw up (the towel :-) ). i kept go on, even put screws on the front tire this winter (i'm from montreal suburbans in canada). now i'm 175 and to continue in the masochist area, i'm building myself a fixed gear to gain a little distance in my training.

keep on ridding everybody!!! it's always fun to see a toothpick cyclist hauled by clydesdale!!!
