Is that possible to use the Sram power link with a Shimano XT chain ? Will it work good ?

The regular PowerLink is no good ?
Doh?? Duno bout 'regular', but the 9 speed link is gold and the 8 speed is silver. The 8 speed sram link works with a 8 speed IG shimano chain but not the wider HG shimano chain.

While we're on the topic, my LBS replaced my chain a while back (with a D/A). I had wanted them to use a powerlink but they basically refused. I didn't argue the point too much (they had already done it), but is this just Shimano propaganda or is there some real reason that it might not work? (I think 9 out of 10 people I've asked say it's fine).
Sram says don't do it, so what's a shop to do? Indivudals have been doing it for years.
